Hey.
I have a 98 Civic coupe and I want it to be a daily driver and take it to the tracks maybe once or twice a week but use it as street racing A LOT. Now, I've been told to go with the H22a engine which is 200 stock I believe? Does anyone here have any ideas on what turbo that would go with it well? I mean..are vtechs really any good ;p.
Anyway, ANY ideas and info if you know about this engine will be appreciated. Thanks. Btw, I wanna run low 13s or high 12s without using NOS on the track. Whats it gonna take?

welcome to the board,
well, first of all lets start my spelling "vtec" correctly(you might get flamed for spelling it that way quite a bit around here). As far as being a daily driver/drag 2 days a week/street racer, I would think you are looking for problems. If your going to race it that many times a week and then expect to drive it to school/work and back and then wanting to race it again on the weekends, you might have problems in a shorter span of time. As far as turboing the H22, I would think that a B18c would have a lot more options for t/c parts unless you would like to go custom. You could definetly do mid 13 - high 12's in a GSR turbo and you would have more parts available to you for future tuning. You could also go to the turbo forum and post the same ? and I am sure you will find many guys with that type of set-up.
good luck with the project

just wanan tell u before u can flame ....
so it is a daily driver/drag/street racer ....
i will recommend u to go with a gsr engine .. good power .... good economy .. and best of all .. great aftermarket support .....
u can about just do anything wif it ... F/I ... or keep it N/A ....
i would recommend the type R engine .. however .. i dont think that 20 or so HP are worth the extra u gotta pay ... but if u can afford it .. go wif the type R ..
i wouldn't recommend the prelude engine . H22A ..
the front will be slightly overweight ... civic already is a front heavy car .... making it more heavy in the front will make u more likely to oversteer ...
the last thing u wanna do is oversteer on the streets ....
HEY .. that just my recommendation ..... DONT FLAME ME FOR IT ...
HAVE FUN building it ......

Thanks guys..lets see if my knowledge is correct.
GSR engine is around 180 HP, yes? And the "Type R" is about 200, correct? IM NEW I didnt realize to post in the engine tech forum ;p. Anyway, what turbo would you suggest that fits well for the GSR or Type R? The H22 weight is a good point. Thanks.
If im lucky id get it to the track twice a month. Probably only one to see what times I am running and to see if Im improving or not. But it will be a daily driver and illegal street racing car
. Probably race it once or twice a night 2 times a month. Thanks guys.

Go for a Drag Gen III, larger Fuel injectors(440cc), and a lighter clutch..you will not be disapointed.

H22 in a Civic is fine for Drag racing, but Handeling stinks UNLESS, UNLESS you re build your suspension. I'm a firm believer in Stroking for more displacement.
B18C5 is fine that's what I personally use, but the price for these things are around 5k and then another 1000 to get it in your car. H22's are running for about 3500 to 4k and then another 3-4k to get it in your car and working right. Not to mention the extra you will spend upgrading your Brakes and Suspension. Yes Brakes are necessary the engine is much heavier and it is important that you can stop that beast. the extra weight will make the stoping distance longer and that's alot of stress on a braking system that was meant to stop a SOHC setup. If anyone trys to say different please don't trust that. Lots of people sup ut upgrade and forget the brakes (not a good Ideal)
So cost to Power the B series is a much better way to go. If you're going to turbo it any way the it really doesn't matter. Either way you look at it you will double the current HP in that car.
There is a lot of potential in the Bseries engine and I recommend to start slow and work your way up.
Go with a B16 or B18 VTEC(and YES VTEC is the SH%T) Lightly mod it before you go into turbo. You may decide you don't want to go turbo. Read a bit more about Turbos and ask around. To properly maintain a turbo system takes a lot of work and know how. It is not a plug and play system. I found it very fun to build my own Engine. I learned what was good and what wa not even worth the money. There are too many guys out here that get a civic and immediately drop in a new engine plug in a Turbo or SC and OR NOS and then realize that it wasn't the right setup and you see them selling their Turbos or SC on the Parts trader etc. Don't fall into the trap. Take your time and try to learn from other's mistakes.
One thing is important for you to remember.... Everyone has a preference everyone has their own opinion. There are a lot of people who call them selves so called experts and what may be true for one may not be true for another there are alot of factors involved. You'd have to virtually rebuild another's entire setup to duplicate their results in HP and Performance.
Just so you know, I'm no expert but I have a very close friend who is a professional and that's who I get my tips from, but I have been tuning for some time now and I'd like to think I know myway around an engine bay pretty well. I can tell you the mistake I've made and the countless $$$ I've spent to end up with a setup that would have cost me about half of what I have spent so far...
Peace
Oh and lets try and keep this one friendly. The so far since I've been on Honda-Tech I have taken part in Two threads that were closed due to a couple of bad seeds.

Hey, maxim. What kind of setup for you running for what price? The price that it WOULD of costed if you hadn't of had to re-do everything. Thanks for the info though.
Yeah, I did post something like this in Hybrid but since people are also replying here thats even better.
