I am wondering if its safe to retard my ignition timing when using an MSD 6AL. I do not have MSD BTM, but will be retarding the distributor mechanically. I cant see how this wold cause a problem but thought i'd check...

at the moment i have stock ignition but slightly retarded. I am wondering if I put an MSD 6AL box onto the distributor can i still leave it retarded??? Surely someone out there must of done this....
Its only temporary till i can afford the BTM add on for this unit....

Of course you can set your timing however you want, regardless of where your spark comes from... Won't be a problem whatsoever

 

Yeah, I ran with 2degree RETARD(mechanically) with my MSD 6A for 2 years , no prob, though.

 

how much are you boosting?

You should be fine with about 2 degree's of retard...
