Swap: B16 SIR-I vs SIR-II
Ok so there's a 10HP difference, the SIR-II has an optional LSD, and the SIR-II has a hydro tranny. I wanna drop the engine into my '91 CRX.
What's the real difference between the SIR-I and SIR-II? I mean, for the price of the SIR-II, I could proabbly do a B18 LS/VTEC and have an engine with more bite than bark.
I'm not lookin to spend the extra 1k or so unless I really know what I'm getting into. Should I stick with B16A2 SIR-I? If not, why?
Thanks!

2nd-gen B16A is a waste of money for 4th-gen Civic, unless you just want a newer engine and a good short-geared LSD tranny. Not only does it cost a lot more than the 1st-gen B16A, but you will also have to spend extra buy the Hasport hydro-to-cable tranny conversion.
I say, either get a 1st-gen B16A, or go B18.

The B16A2 is an OBD-II 160hp USDM engine, came in the '96-97 del Sol VTEC and '99-00 Civic Si.
The XSi engine could be either the pre-OBD 158hp 1st-gen JDM B16A found in '89-91 XSi's, or it could be the OBD-I 168hp 2nd-gen JDM B16A found in '92-93 XSi's.

Well eventually I wanna boost and spray, and I'm goin H/I/E until I get the cash. Will the cable tranny handle that? SHould I just stick with the first gen or go B18?
I'm kinda biased to the B16 because I like to rev high, but HP is my ultimate goal.
Thanks for the excellent advice so far.

Instead of using the Hasport hydro to cable converion
What about swapping over the pedal assembly from the hydro car???..
I've got a 4th Gen.... Would like to put as NEW a drivetrain in it as possible.

You would have to swap an entire hydraulic clutch system into the car, including a clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and hydraulic lines.
It is cheaper and much easier to just get the Hasport mounts that include the clutch conversion kit.

some people claim the A2 doesnt fit into the EF chassis, but it does, my cousing has done it twice already... also the SiR A1 also comes with optional LSD for example the Y1 LSD
as far as pricewise, the A1 is better.... as for hydro or cable, trannies are basically the same trannies , all it changes is the actual mechanism arm that moves the pressure plate.... from the input shaft in they are basically the same
u get the A2 and u will get a OBD1 dizzy and ecu and then u need an Si dizzyand ecu .. get the A1 wich is OBDO and u will get the right stuff and ecu

i bought an sir II from japan with no tranny and i'm bolting on/using a usdm ls cable tranny.
i'm not doing any hydro-cable conversions or anything... this is going into my 89 si

the 92-95 Civic SiR has the famouse (called by us B16A2)

Exactly.
The B16A2 is a USDM OBD-2 engine.
The only OBD-1 B16 engines are the 2nd-gen JDM B16A, and the USDM B16A3.
A 2nd-gen JDM B16A is not the same thing as a B16A2.

you can tell an sir II in a few ways, electrical connectors on the engines harness should be grey and not white, the number under the block stamp should start with 5 and the valve cover should say dohc small and VTEC big.
I got the long geared tranny. I intend to have a hard time hokking up with my turbo setup, so the long gears are gunna be a helper later. they will hurt my all-motor acceleration. I think it will cancel out once the hairdryer is bolted on.

What is this "SiR II" stuff? The "SiR II" is a Civic. The XSi engine came from an Integra.
This is why it is important to use the proper terminology. I see people using "SiR II" to refer to 2nd-gen B16A engines, and this makes things misleading and confusing.
Not all XSi engines are 2nd-gen B16As; the Integra XSi was sold from late 1989 on up to mid 1993. '89-91 XSi engines are 1st-gen pre-OBD B16As, and '92-93 XSi engines are 2nd-gen OBD-1 B16As.
You go by the production year of the engine, not by the car it came from.
