Help with Integra build up
A good buddy of mine just bought a 1996 Integra LS with 54k miles on it for $7500, and he has about $2400 left over of what he had saved up to put into it. The car is completely stock, but has nothing wrong with it, no repairs needed. So, the question is, what should he do with the $2400 left?
He has a job in the summers, and makes a little over 1000 each summer. So basically, this is what I suggested:
Work on wheels/suspension first so...
$150 for some H&R springs
$375 for KYB AGX's
so that leaves 1875...what about wheels/tires?
Whatever is left after that, I suggested go towards a turbo, which he would have to save for. Figure if he has a little over 1000 left, it should be on there by the end of senior year, considering we are sophomores in hs now.
So then add the turbo in there...
Revhard Kit: $2700 (use the fmu provided for the time being...upgrade to hondata later possibly)
Boost Controller: $175
Exhaust: $350 for turbo muffler with custom piping
Gauges: $100
So all in all:
$150 for springs
$375 for shocks
$600 for wheels and tires
$2700 for turbo kit
$175 for the boost controller
$350 for the exhaust
$100 for the boost and af gauges
Comes to a total of $4450, which means over a 2 year period he'll have to get another 2 grand roughly. Since the car has 54k on it right now, estimate 70k by the time the turbo gets put on. 70k is a decent amount of miles for the start of a turbo project right? Overall, what do you guys think of this plan? Any other suggestions?

All of that is relative to what he wants out of his car.
Does he want to auto-x, drag race, show car?
You really didn't mention any of that information, which is what we need to tell him how to spend his money.

Then just tell him to save for a turbo kit.
boost it, then suspension, then everything else. (if drag is his first priority, like you say it is.)

For the time being, get wheels, and GC coilovers. That should hold him off.
If he wants more, start with bolt-ons.

What about exhaust? Wait until boost for that? or just get it now?
And one other thing...If the car starts putting down over 200whp when it gets boosted which it should, how long would you give it before the clutch goes out?

Man, alot of this stuff is all opinions, and hypothetical.
Tell him to save his money, and search / read the board. Make him wait and research for one full month before he starts to spend ANY money. Its his money.
