Yo guys,
I gotta '97 GSR with 'bout 89k on it. Would a turbo add on be worht it?
Thinkin' i'll need a new motor before that.

I'm in Albuquerque too. Msg me on AIM and i'll tell you everything you need to know about turbo'ing a honda the right way.
Locally, Solid-Technology is a good place to check out to get information. They are doing a built motor and turbo on a civic si, and they also have a 5G prelude that they are putting together a kit for.
My aim is Ramocheese

A turbo kit can cost you $1,500-**** $5k, it all depend son what parts you get, your goals, your budget.
Theres no need to swap in a new motor, you have under 100k, no need to waste a perfectly running motor.

I bought a kit for $1900 and so far WITH OUT any labor I am over $3000. Hahahahaha. When I first got on here someone said dont try and boost with less than 4 grand and I laughed to myself......yeah......they were right! If I had it to do over I would buy the DRAG kit from ben @ importparts.com and he is giving a FREE Hondata! check the top of the forced induction forum!

Like definitely more than 5 bucks!!!

I've seen too many blown up turboed Hondas. Look into a built block and some kind of top end work. I've got a DOHC ZC Crx and I'm thinking about going with boost. My estimated build up sheet to do it the so called "right way" with a semi mild custom setup was around 7000. There's a lotta stuff some people take for granted when they plan to go turbo.....don't be one of them. Also if you're looking at a turbo kit be wary..... they don't always solve all problems either....Just my .02(Remember, Honda motors weren't built for boost....)
3-4k for a good kit, ( i am going with the full-race.com kit) , about 2k for sleeving, forged pistons and rods, and around 600-1k for engine management. (hondata, aem ems, etc.) This is the only way I would go turbo. I suppose you dont have to get forged internals and could run low boost, but eventually your rings/pistons will go, might as well get it out of the way, so you won't have any downtime later on down the road.

Rofl I know too many people with WRX's here. You have to narrow it down. I am good friends with Nathan from TurboXS though. He used to live here before he got the job doing sales/dyno testing at TurboXS.
He was the fastest WRX in the country for a little while. He ran 12.3 about 5 months after the WRX came out in the USA.

boost it!
turbo kits run around $2000-$3500. labor will run you a good $500-$700 for install. then youll need a clutch... some guages... a bunch of little things to make your kit efficient. it gets costly, but it all depends on how you want to put it together.
