Brake light didnt go off this morning
This morning wasnt different than any other morning. Got in, started the car right up, dropped the ebrake down, put it in gear, then noticed the BRAKE light hadnt gone off. But the brake was fully down. I drove on it and it seemed fine. In fact, I didnt even drive far enough for the car to warm up before I parked. Walked out a couple hours later and no problem. WTF was that?
Check your brake fluid. That light is set off by EITHER the float switch for the brake fluid level OR the handbrake. Could be a couple things...
1 - Brake fluid is getting low, but only trips the float in the morning when it's cold.
2 - Brake fluid is OK but the float switch is going bad.
3 - Little button switch under the brake handle is getting flaky or it's bracket is bent.
4 - Wiring for either one of these has rubbed thru its insulation & sometimes it shorts to ground.

I don't have a solution, but I did want to let you know that I have been having the same problem. I thought it maybe had something to do with the cold weather we have been having in Wisconsin, but seeing as you are in Texas I doubt that is your problem. I have looked into it a little bit and it seems to be a very common problem with G3 tegs. There have been a lot of posts about it recently on other Honda/Acura/Integra boards. Do as suggested, check the brake fluid level and watch it. If you really want, you could decrease the tension on your ebrake and see if that helps.....
EXACT same thing happened to me.
HOW TO FIX IT:
Open the hood and unscrew both brake fluid reservoirs. CAREFULLY clean the caps and around the top of the lids. Next, turn each cap/white plunger upside down and make sure its well lubricated with brake fluid. Carefully "dunk" each plunger in the brake fluid reservoirs before screwing them back into place.
FIXED.

Read in the manual!!!!It says everything about this!! My cousin had the same problem on his 2000 ls....I think it just comes on when you need to do some work on your breaks!
Oh, my brakes are wasted anyways. When I bought the car the dealership torqued the wheels on to extreme levels. I couldnt break the lugs off when I was trying. Since then I have new rims with correct torque, but its too late. It warped the rotors. I'm just driving on them till they start getting REAL bad. Also, the ebrake shoes are probably almost bare metal, but for some reason auto express didnt stock ebrake shoes. So I'm gonna have to keep looking around for that.

Isn't your avatar a 3rd-gen? I've never seen a Honda that has separate shoes for the handbrake. It's just a lever & cam in the rear caliper - it uses the same brake pads as the main brakes.

there is no such thing as e brake shoes....there just the rear brake pads buddy...

Oh, okay. I've never tried messing around with the rear brakes on the teg. Every car I've worked on that has 4wheel disk always has a mini drum built into the rear disk for the ebrake. Well, that might explain my problems. Hehe. I'm dumb.
I have an 01 Integra and mine only does it when it is lower that 40 degrees. I was just checking the board to see if anybody else was having the same problem...Matt
My Integra's brake light has been spotty since I purchased it in Febuary. Sometimes its on...and sometimes its off, but seems to not care if my e-brake is actually engaged or not. I had to remove the brake master cylinder during the course of another repair, then refill and bleed when finished. It seems to have done something, the light doesn't go on as much as before, but it still happens. Where is the float switch you refer to?

The same thing happens to my 2000 GSR in Tampa, Fl., even if the temp drops to <70 in the garage. The problem goes away on its own after 10 minutes or so, but directly after moving the float up and down in the brake fluid reservoir. The fluid level is fine and the pads are well within specs.
