question for those who know D motor's well
ok, i recently bought a d16y8 core.. it was knocking ended up being the number 4 rod bearing. I have plans to swap my a6 crank and rods over to the y8. But i have to bore the sleeves over on the y8(surface rust). Which mean i need to spend money on oversized piston's. My question is should i pay 200 bucks more for forged JE, or get the OEM replacement oversized for 200. I'm planing to boost 10 PSI MAX.. on this motor would i have to worry about the piston's at this boost?.. I know the rod's are my biggest concern.. not going there now.. my question is strickly on piston's.. is it worth the extra 200 for forged?
thanks

IMO, you'd be better off with better rods and stock pistons vs better pistons and stock rods. Ideally, it'd be best to replace them both.
If you're on a budget, get a set of rods from the 86-87 D16A1. That's the first gen Integra twincam D engine. The rods are still weak compared to a B series rod, but they are beefier than the Y8 rods. Another option is to put LS rods in there.
If it's only a couple hundred dollars that will make/break your budget, I would just wait until you can buy the right stuff. Think about all the work that is involved to do a piston swap (especially if you're replacing damaged ones). Work aside, there is a lot of hidden machine shop costs, too.
You can always look for a used piston/rod combo, too. They're out there if you can be patient.

yeah, i mean if i go with aftermarket piston's i can use the LS rods.. which i got a LS block sitting in the back yard. i can yank them from. d16A1's are alittle hard to come by as cores in junkyards.. mainly cuz the yard's don't ask for motor's that old back as a core. anything that old get crushed or melted down. anyone else got an opinion?
