Honda Newbie with some quick questions...
Don't really know too much about hondas. Specifically a civic I just bought a few weeks ago. It's a 1995 Civic EX 1.6 V-TEC SOHC 5 Speed. It had 105K Miles, and I paid $4600 out the door. It was okay I guess, had a little sound system going on that's worth maybe $600-$800 if I sell it.
Anyway, just some questions? I don't really think I paid too much for it, maybe average for my area, or a little lower than average.
The car had a CEL coming on in the morning, which wasn't happening when I test drove it. Anyway, I've already done some minor mods to it:
I had a muffler shop remove the stock exhaust and muffler and replace it with a straight piped exhaust from the cat-back with the resonator removed. It's pretty loud but I'm use to it cuz I also have a 2002 Celica GT-S 6-Speed with the same exhaust mod :D The piping was 2 1/4", I think stock was 2"? I didn't know if I should have gone 2 1/2 or maybe larger. From experience on my celica, I've always thought 2 1/4" is a good size to start with.
I also removed the stock header, took me 3 focking hours cuz the bolts wouldn't come off no matter how much w-40 I used. Anyway, the hardest part was probably removing the bottom part of the header that connects to the exhaust. I replaced the stock header with a 4-2-1 Greddy Header that I bought for $397. I didn't really research it that much, but I know Greddy is a reputable name and have seen dynos for similar inline-4's. My other choices were OBX or DC Sports, but it just happened I like the greddy better and the price was a little more than the other ones.
So that's E/H so far for bolt ons. I'm not sure if I'm going to get a CAI or a short ram yet. What do you guys think?
I don't know if I'm going turbo either, so that's why I haven't gotten an intake yet. Is anyone using an INJEN CAI? How's it working for ya? I have one on my Celica. I spank civics all day on my celica. It has a DOHC 2zz engine with 180hps, about 167-171 stock, to the wheel. With my mods I probably added about 15-20hps. That's I/E/H/S-AFC/02 Sensor Simulator.
Anyway, I know a civic is capable of exceeding my celica because of the huge aftermarket they have, and the celicas lack.
Should I go turbo or should I go N/A? I really wanna go N/A cuz it's something going to the track and spanking V-6's and V-8's all motor, and I think I can do it... or should be asking, can I do it? What are some low times for all motor civics.
What's the Engine on my civic? I haven't researched it a lot, is it a D-Series? What's the exact spec?
What should be my next mod? I'm thinking a P&P, maybe boring or just working the internals more. I don't wanna drop a lot of cash and I might have to buy used aftermarket parts from this site or maybe from E-Bay. My goal is a 12.5s-13.5s all motor civic.
If I can't do it, is a twin turbo set up plausible, or possible. Has anyone done it? With a small enough turbo(s) maybe? Is it worth it? Anyway, all these questions... I'd like some input and responses thanks. Someone from Newcelica.org pointed me to this forum. So hopefully it'll work out.
THanks again

Oh Yea... I forgot to mention that the reason I think I was getting a CEL in the morning, might have been a cylinder head might have been getting some moisture or something, cuz the weather here in WA (near seattle) gets pretty cold, about 25-32 at the lowest lately.
That's what I thought it was. CUz after the car is warmed up or if I let it warm for 10 minutes, no CEL.
Anyway, turns out when I was taking off the O2 sensor from the stock header, part of it was burned off and that might've been it?
Now I have a continous CEL with my new header. I don't know if this is normal or if I had to reset the ECU because after I put the I and H and E on my Celica, I had to manually pull the sensor fuse from the fusebox and let it reset, and it removed the CEL. I don't know if I have to do this with my civic also or not? Or just maybe disconnect the battery for a while?
Anyway, would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get rid of the CEL.

quick questions? right. the search button up there can answer all your questions for you.
and remember: cheap, fast, reliable. you can only have two.

welcome newbie. first off it looks like although u didnt do much research u also havent sug urself a shitty hole. greddy header is a decent choice although i would have went with the DC. all motor is an interesting route to go if ur interested but does take quite a bit of cash. the fastest all-motor hondas these days are in the 10s, but thats out of ur league. to get down to the 12s ur looking at running some nice high compression with quite a bit of internal work (pistons, rods, cams, etc) especially if ur trying to do this on ur stock motor. the d-series is a good engine but difficult to build into a quick all motor ride. i woudl suggest a swap if u have the cash and are set on all motor, but a turbo d series is a good deal for relatively cheap, and can get u some good times. either way a 12.5 is gonna take some bills. give us a price range (upper limit) u have to spend and we can go from theres.

haha. i know. i think it's because i want all three really bad, and the more i think about it, the more the validity of that idea sinks in. its so true.

I did a few searches earlier today on some turbo set ups. But yea.. I didn't reasearch the header. Greddy's not that bad. I spank civics left and right all day long, even some ITRs and Preludes every once in a while depending how full my bottle is. Anyway, I'd like to spend about $500-$1000 in the near future, as in within 2 weeks to 1 month. That or hold out for abotu 3-4months and just drop a turbo. I don't want to do the whole engine swap thing unless I get a good legit or unlegit deal, I don't really care much. If I did that, I'd go with a prelude H series. I think it's the H-22 or something? That or a B-20. But only if I don't go turbo.
My track times with my celica was 14.1 at the lowest. That was I/E. Never ran it with my header or my LSDs and Flywheel and never ran it while on the bottle or my stickies. But I estimate maybe 13.7s or possibly a bit lower and I didn't spend more than $1200 on aftermarket.
Okay, sorry if it seems I'm propping my celica too much, so I'll stop. I think the civic is a descent all around car for people on budgets and I appreciate a well modded car as much as the next guy.
Thanks for advicing me on the search button, but while you might have a gazzilion posts here, I have an equal amount of membership time and post as well as knowledge when it comes to celica sites etc. And if a civic owner came in our forums asking the same questions I did, I wouldn't tell him to use the search button, I'd give him all the advice I could. Thanks again though.

good potential for turbo, but if you want to go na i wouldn't recommend it on that motor - it will be very expensive, and you still won't get that much power out of it. if you want na just do a swap (any b series, h22, or kseries if you've got the money). go over to the hybrid forum for that.
