Teins?
Who out there has Teins, and how bad *** are they? Dropping my ITR is the first mod I'm going to do, and I want to make the right choice. If I had to by springs right now I would by Teins or Endless, but I would like feedback first, good and bad. So anything anyone knows about them and maybe a lttle insight on the different series:CS, NR, NA, HR, HA. It's a lot to absorb (get it) sorry. Thanks.
Nosamk, the dude who sold me my R, installed Tein HAs on it. I absolutely love them. I mess with the stiffness all the time, they handle well. Although i can't really compare to stock. The height is great right now, a good combination of low height and streetability.
Coil-over??
ZEAL B, B2 , B6 ,S6 or Super Function... depends your application. Qualitywise, ZEAL will be over Tein.
Tein is made out steel with welded on coil-over sleeve very easy to rust. Ride quality is good.
ZEAL is made out of chromoly steel, machined sleeve with the shock body. Comes with hard bushings upper mount.
Pricewise they are very close so that's what I can say Boss

I just install the TEIN NA on my car. It is not a real coilover, but they do allow you to set the height to 3 differences position. I set mine to the highest one, and it give around 1.5" of drop, which is perfect for me!!
It doesn't have any coilover sleeve, so rusting is not an issue at all. Also, even if you have the HA, all you have to do is to apply some anti-sieze to the sleeve during install, it will take care of all rusting problem. So if the shop install the HA for you know what they are doing, there shouldn't be any rust problem!! I have a few friends with HA and none of them have any rusting problem. They all love the ride of it and said won't go for any other coilover for street application!!
Oh, the reason I didn't buy the HA? It is because I am short on cash and a got a great great deal on the NA (free S'Tech spring and LCA
) Also, I used to have the Koni and GC set up, and I NEVER adjust the height after I have it set, so why bother with coilover??
Comparison between NA and Koni/GC? The TEIN NA give much more comfortable ride quality, but it did get very stiff when I corner due to the progressive spring rate. I set it to softest for my highway trip back home. But I tried out the stiffest setting right after I install it, it is still very acceptable for street use!! I LOVE IT!! Money well spend!!

i installed my HA's recently too.. dont have to worry about rust in socal.. but the only problem that i faced so far is that the locking nut on the top of the shock that goes through the adjusting ****.. have come loose.. first the front two and last night my rear right. I tightened them down some more and they seem to work fine.. when the locking nut was loose there was too much play and they were extremely loud on every bump.. did anyone run into these probs?
What's your price range? That will quickly reduce your options as most of the Zeals and Teins are at or above $2000 (Zeal B6/S6, Super Function; Tein RA, RE, N1, RS). Also, not all Teins have rust issues, only the HA's. The other Tein's actually have aluminum bodies. The Zeal S6 and I think Super Function also use aluminum. It's the B-series that's chromoly. Since you're not worried about rust, Tein HA's can be had for about $1200-$1250 w/o upper mounts, so that's a good deal. Zeal B2's (HA's competition) comes with upper mounts standard, so that's factored into the price so it's higher. Dunno if you want metal mounts or not. I got a set of A'pex N1's (99-spec) and I like them a lot. Tho, I found a place carrying JIC's that I wanna check out...mmm, more toys...this is bad. Good thing I'm not close enough to BC to be so temped by AJ...that'd be soooo bad for my bank account.
I've got the HA's, love em! Whats this rust everyone is talking about???
I live in New Jersey and I have Tein HA's. The roads are bad, cold and salty and I had absolutely no problems with rust (no signs of it either). Here is the trick, alittle antiseize on the thread only where it is needed. Then spray WD-40 on the whole coilover every month or so. This keeps the moisture away. I absolutely love them. The softest setting is softer than stock and the harder setting is like driving on cement shocks. They are great.
My only concern is that they're probably heavier than the stock assembly which means alittle more unsprung weight. (haven't confirmed that yet). I haven't seen any degradation of performance, actually the car is significantly well-planted on the track.
I play with the dampening all the time. Somedays I want smoothe rides, other days I want stiff. After driving on them for awhile, you can tell a difference between each click. I use them all!

I got them and I like them a lot. Albeit that I have only done 7 laps on them.
