oil pressure test help
my boy has a problem with his crx no vtec on a b16 i need to know where is the best place to hook up an oil pressure gauge like the ones from snapon tools please help i swaped the vtec solo. with the one from my crx that works but nothing it still dosen't work so i want to do a oil pressure test to see whats going on when i shoot the vtec manually with a switch and see whats the pressure any ideas will help thank you
yes the vss is working fine and i shot it manually and didnt work but i want to do an oil pressure test o see if im getting a good amount of oil to the head
hey thanks for that info Davep i did the oil pressure test ,there is no pressure at idle but when we drove around the block and we hit 5200 rpm the gauge read 55psi but there was no vtec engagment , well at least naw i know the ecu is doing it's job and there is inuff oil pressure at the solenoid it's got to be something mechanical any suggestions guys will help thanks

How do you know VTEC isn't engaging?
Double check if the solenoid is functioning by touching the vtec wire to the +12v terminal on the battery (with the engine off) - if you hear a *click*, then it is functioning. Checking the vtec solenoid filter also is a good idea (as mentioned above). It's not too often that the vtec oil passageways would be clogged, but I guess it never hurts to check - to do so, you'd obviously have to pull out some of the valvetrain components...
Good luck with everything, and keep us posted!

the vtec solenoid is working because when i hooked up the oil pressure gauge to the vtec test port and we went around the block as soon as we hit 5200 rpms the gauge read 57 psi but at idle or before we hit 5200 the gauge read zero .
We don't hear vtec engagment but could it be possible that the transition to the bigger lobes is so smooth that we don't hear it , it has a tanabe exhaust , dc headers, high flow cat,aem intake, and toda spec B cams with toda springs and crower retainers , the tone in the exhaust is the same all the way to redline.
The water and oil pump are new and there is no oil light or check engine light coming up i even checked the ecu for codes flashing nooooooothhiiinggg. help
