question on swapping d16 main bearing cap
I was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to get a block align bored if you switch bearing caps? A buddy of mine believes that most stock honda blocks are straight enough that it wouldn't be much of an issue. The reason I ask is that we pulled the cap to check main and rod bearing clearance. Something fell on the cap and dinged it badly. My buddy had another cap from a stock engine and put that one on. Am I going to be in a world of hurt?
I think you will more then likely be ok. Honda's have extremely tight tolerances that call for variations in bearings of only thousands of an inch.
Your cap probably isn't that far off, and its only one cap anyway, so it probably wont ever be an issue.
Where was the original cap dinged? on the bearing surface?
