Hello, did anybody try to take out the distributor before? I got a 93 EX and I was trying to take it out but got stuck after taking out the dist. cap. That's a plastic cover I had no idea how to take it out.

 

are u tryin to take the whole distributor or just the cap....if your takin the distributor out..there are 3 bolts you have to use to get it off...just remember...when u put it back on...make sure the distrbutor will spin back and forth freely cus if you put it on wrong and try to start it...you will skip timing like a **** and you'll fug some serious **** up...good luck

 

I only took the cap out in order to inspect the rotor. After the cap, that's a plastic cover that no way I could take it out.

 

Anyway, I tried to take the whole dist. out, but it didn't work cuz it's damn hard to open the bolts, they're like sealed or something. I really don't want to pay $70 for the service if I bought a new dist. and let some mechanics to install it.

 

You have to rotate the rotor until you can see the screw that holds it down through the little slot on the backside of the dist.

Once you take the rotor off, the plastic shield just slides off.

 

Thanks for your input guys. But how am I gonna rotate the rotor? I cant spin it with both my hands. Do you mean I hav to start the engine after taking the cap off and let it spin until I can see the screw? (I wonder if I could do it)

 

just crank the motor with the cap off until you see the screw...usaully when the rotor (part that sticks out) is facing the front of the car...you should be able to pull the screw out....also helps when you have a friend cranking the car slowly while you look to see where the rotor is facing...good luck!

 

Do it the easy way. Mark the distributor location with a sharpie. So that your timing is still stock. Remover the 3 12mm bolts, and pull the distributor off. Then it will spin freely so you can pull off the rotor. Why you want to do this i dont know, but thats the easiest way. Then installation make sure the distributor thingy(sorry forgot the technicle name) lines up with the cam. It can only fit one way, so you may have to spin it 180 degrees. Do not force it. Then line it back up with the mark you made with the sharpie and your set. Also dont forget the spark plug wire order. In case you forgot it like this if you looking from the passenger side to driver side straight on.
