Stuck Distributor Cap..
So as odd as it sounds..
my distrubtor cap is stuck! It moves slightly but feels like something is pulling it back, and holding it on.
New member and hope someone can help me with this, I have bought a new cap and rotor so if I have to break it off I will. Just scared that what ever is holding it on is important, don't want to replace the whole distrubtor just yet.
Car is a 1998 Acrua Integra El with a b16a2 Obd1 Swap.
Thanks a bunch! Really puzzled by this the thing should just come off without force. ( I have removed the three bolts holding it on).

I like the tuna here

If you have removed the three bolts I can't think of anything that would hold it on...that's weird. Take a picture once you break it off, lol.

I know right?! I work at ford dealership so I'm gonna go there today and cut off the top, maybe I can see what's holding it there..

Re: Stuck Distributor Cap..
I use to buy cheap d series distributors off of ebay and take them apart and keep the icm, coil, rotor & cap as extras for my b16 (I have three complete extra ones for it and a ton of extra parts). I had a few that were really stuck on, I have noticed when it is all oem parts the cap is a pretty snug fit, I have even had a few get stuck, but came off with some wiggling on the cap and pulling straight away from the base of the distributor. So unless something failed internally and jammed up the shaft/rotor into the plastic cover under the cap, it should slide off with minimal issues.
Don't be afraid to put some muscle into it. Really isn't much to break inside the distributor, unless you are throwing it around or trying to beat the cap off with a hammer. Only thing I have managed to break was the plastic cover that sits below the rotor and over the other internals of the distributor.

Re: Stuck Distributor Cap..
Problem solved guys!! The top of the cap melted somehow and was actually attached to the internal plastic guard, had to cut it apart and replace the shield. Car is back and running with a new cap and rotor, strange that it melted on top of the coil though. . Must have been when I was working in the dark on the car with a light on the engine head.
