Default Thermostat question

Could a bad thermostat and bad thermostat switch cause my D16 to act funny. My car now starts and idle at 2000rpms and drive a little and it lowers to 1000rpms. ( its cool outside) But when it is warm outside their is no idle porblems, it may rev a little in neutral.

Sounds like it's because the car is trying to warm up, it could very well be the thermostat though.

Normally it sits at little higher RPM's to allow the car to warm up and get to normal operating temperature.

Also I was trying to bleed my coolant system when I cleaned IAC. I had my rad. cap off (car was still cold)waiting for my thermostat to open but it never opened. Is that normal?
