Icon2 quick questions....

i have a b18b1 in my hatch, and lately my temp gauge would stay on cold, even when i run it hard...i stay in houston tx, and the weather has been around the 60's lately, does this mean my thermostat is gone??? and another question...on cold starts my car would idle down to zero almost cuttin off but then idling back up to like 300 before going back down to zero, it would do this for a good 5 mins or so....any suggestions on what to check???

your thermostat doesn't just dissapear. it may be stuck open. and as for the idle it cant be 300, it couldnt run. to often people overlook the very tiny hash mark(500) before the bigger hash mark(zero). your idle issue could also be related to the cooling issue. when your low on coolant it can affect the idle because of the FITV. if your thermostat is stuck open then its allowing more coolant to pass than normal and not enough is reaching the FITV. are your fans running constantly, like at start up?

go to a parts store and borrow the scan tool, watch the coolant temp on the screen. if it also reads low you have one of two things. a bad sensor or stuck thermostat. even with the stat wide open the car should reach 150ish, if the scan tool shows 140-160 after driving to the store and getting as hot as you can get it you have a thermostat problem. if the scan tool shows something wacko like 73deg after driving there your sensor needs to be replaced.

ok ill look into that....also lately when i step on the gas it takes about a second or two before the car actually revs up, like if its laggin or something, this only happens when i first start up....but after i let the car run for a while then this will go away...is this a throttle problem??
