Default IN NEED OF HELP.....How can i tell if i have a CTR or ITR tranny?

as it is stated above. do CTR's and ITR's have the same LSD? i need to change it i think. my axle pops out just a little, not completely out but like a 1/4" out of hte tranny (passenger side) as it spins. also the half shaft moves a lot. like wobbles. my friends say its the differential. anyone got an idea of what it could be? do you think its the diff or something else in the trans? please help
thanks

My thoughts EXACTLY. Passenger side Axel pops out may mean that that little ring spring is not there OR is worn out pretty bad. When I changed my Axels I needed a prybar to pop it out.

he said passenger side
the intermediate shaft is on the DRIVERS side

CTR, 96-97 JDM ITR and USDM ITR transmissions are the same

If your axle is popping out, try replacing the retaining clip.

Could also be a bad joint. Had this problem on another car and the joint made 0 noise, had a perfect boot, etc and was only obviously bad upon closer inspection. Originally it was thought to be the retaining clip as well (by the acura dealership).

I believe that the CTR trans says S4C on it and the ITR says J4D or something. The CTR trans that I bought a long time ago said S4C. Your snap ring is probably not engaging. Remove the axle and check and/or replace the snap ring. Then get a dead blow hammer and slap that sucker in. They rarely get worn out though.

I highly doubt that your diff is broken though. If the diff was broken you'd have a lot more than an axle wobble. There would be a lot of noises and the car would either not move or move with a lot of 'complaining'. My car was in an accident which pushed the axle into the transaxle. This caused the CV shaft to gall the inside of the differential. The CV was replaced and the inner surface of the differential was smoothed out. After that it was all good.

i put a brand new axle in and it still isnt normal. so im assuming its not the retaining clip. its like every full turn the axle jerks out of the tranny just a little, not a LOT. is doesnt pop out of the tranny it just moves out of the tranny like something is pushing out just a little. you can tell its not suppose to do that. this is the passenger side axle....on the driver side the intermediate shaft and axle wobble a whole lot. like up and down and side to side.

another thing..do CTR and ITRs have the same size diff? my friends say theres a big and small diff but im not sure which trannys have small or big diffs.

i think you should make sure the intermdiate shaft on the drivers side is properly bolted to the bolck, it should not wobble... even if something was making it want to wobble.

its bolted in, its not wobbline cause its not bolted to the block its where the axle is goes into the half shaft...it moves left to right w/ the other side axle....what could it be besides the retaining clip? is there other parts in the tranny that may be broken other then the diff?
