if you are building a motor for a daily driver, you are going to want to run around 14 a/f out of boost and 12 in boost. with some conservative timing (maybee .6 to 1 deg /lb retard). so if i have a wideband and datalogging, what good is a dyno gonna do for me? the only thing i can see is to set the vtec crossover and cam gear adjustments. and also it would be useful for ignition timing but as far as tuning for a safe street motor, i don't see the benefit. opinions?

 

you can do all your tuning on the street. dyno is helpful in getting timing adjusted and for things like cam gears, etc that you need reliable, repeatable HP and torque numbers to be able to adjust them accurately

 

I would assume dyno tunning would be good for getting the max HP and tourqe curve from your engine.
