Check Engine Light comes on; Cant Rev past 4k, wtf?
Ok, nowadays, the check engine light comes on randomly and when I accelerate, I cant rev past 4k! Whats wrong? and How do I fix it? I have a 02 Accord SE btw.
Check your oil level. I would bet that your oil is low at least 1-2 quarts and thus youre havin trouble revvin higher. VTEC runs off of volumetric oil pressure and it will not let a car rev higher if it doesnt have the oil. It happened to a friend of mine.. his car wouldnt rev past 4 grand either.

This is correct. Add some oil and you should be good to go.

Yup, I think it was the oil problem. I checked the level yesterday and the level was......well LOW, so I added 4 qts of oil and yep, so far, problem solved! No more cel and engine feels MUCH better. Thanks guys!
btw, I thought the Oil Light was suppose to come on when ur low on oil?? That's what happens on my 94 Accord LX, when its low on oil, the oil light blinks on.

Holy sh*t! You had to add 4 qts? I'd be looking into what's causing you to lose oil in such huge amounts... You may have solved one problem, but it looks like you got some more to solve.

hmm, well what u think might be the problem? The car runs a lot every day, I think around 70-80 miles daily, and im also overdue for a oil change, last one was at around 46k, now im at 56k
I'll prolly get it done sometime this week.

you went way over!!!!
Thats just terrible, i get angry when i go just a couple miles over. I also change my oil every 2500-3000 miles, which is more frequent than suggested. Fresh oil keeps an engine happy, i'm surprised you were able to still drive going so far over...

the oil light only comes on when your oil pressure is low. the sensor is on the back of the block right where the oil pump pushes oil up into the head. that means that if you have enough oil for the pump to pick it up out of the pan and push it into the head the light isn't going to come on. you've got to be really low for the pressure to drop.
check your oil level again, your oil capacity is only 4.5 qts. I'd make sure that you didn't add too much.

OMG!!! 10 grand on an oil change? Change your oil asap then change it every 1000-1500 to try and get as much buildup out that you can. Be sure to change your oil every 2500-3000 miles.

WHY? I know for my car the recomended service is 7500mi for normal driving. With todays oils you should easily be able to run that much without an oil change.
Now... if you tracking your car or drive the car very hard... I would change it more often
