best way to know if head gasket is blown ?
Hello, i am wondering how will i know if my head gasket is blown ? i dont see any smoke from the engine head, i do have alittle white smoke from the exhaust tip. and i did a compression test and all cylinders were well below the spec ? any other way to tell so i can make it a more defenite ? thanks in advance !!
Leak down test, that will tell you if it's leaking, where your losing compression and 99.9% of the time will point out the problem
white = coolant or water
white = coolant or water
is there something i can buy to do a leak down test? if so whats the name ? and doesnt that have to be done with a air compressor ? cause i dont have one
Leak down tester - thats pretty much what it's called, and yes you need a way to pressurize the cylinders, air compressor, or maybe and air tank? like the ones used to fill tires up, but you will still need a compressor to fill that up so idk what you will have to do as these are the ony 2 ways i have ever done it.
thats one easy way to tell but it won't necessarly do that if the headgasket is bad....i've seen bad headgaskets leak just oil, just water, or leak oil, or water but not into the engine, but in his case yes, since he has white smoke.
what were the comp test #'s? were they all about the same?

yes all the compression tests were about the same, ummm i think they were like 120 or so, does that mean anything ? i know it should be like 180 or so, so your saying that the air tanks to fill tires like at a gas station are good to use for it ? cause i have a gas station right across the street i can get the car too ? and how to i do a leak down test ? same as the compression test? and what numbers am i looking for ? thanks again!

Good info in those links......... basicly, with all valves closed in the cylinder you are testing, you pressurize it with air and see how much air it leaks, and where it is going. then you will know what is up.......read the links and if you need more help let us know.
