well if i were you i would do a swap. A swap is essentially the most reliable. Now i know that turbo's, when tuned properly, can be just as reliable as any thing else but im being realistic. A swap would be a little easier to maintain. And i really dont htink that the D16 is real good platform to begin with.

Now if you wanted to build the D16 then you could very easily get great numbers to the wheels. But i still wouldnt want to do it. Just figured i would say that so i dont get flamed.

Now with teh price of swaps you could probably get a LS swap and turbo that for a little more money if FI is what you want. With a slight rebuild and about 12 psi, you could easily put down 260 to ~280 fwhp with the right tuning. Tuning is everything!!!

But if i were you i would begin with a swap and go from there. good luck

what type of performance goals do you have in mind....I run 14s, and have 200hp at the wheels w/ a turbo sohc....if you want more....swap then turbo

How many miles are on your engine? That should be a deciding factor. If you've got 125,000 miles on it, you might want to go ahead and swap. However, if you D16 has been sitting in storage for the past 9 years, and it only has 20,000 miles on it then go ahead and turbo it. Maybe you should do a compression check, that way you'll know if your engine can handle the additional strain of a turbo. Check out this site http://pub19.ezboard.com/bturbod16forum

well thats a must....don't turbo till you do a compression check 1st...turbo will quickly expand a small problem

Ask youself this first.. #1 What's my goal? #2 What's my budget? Based on this, you'll quickly know where you can/can't go. My eventual plan is to swap to an H22A and turbo it, only reason I haven't done it yet... $$. So I'll spend some money getting what I can out of my D16 till I can't reasonably get anymore, then H22 I go.

I have the same problem with my civic EX. I figure I'll swap first...and if i ever want more performance....i'll turbo the swapped engine.

What would you do if you had a D16 Del Sol with 23,000 miles on it?
Turbo or swap?
One problem, its a auto.
Thanks for your opinions.

If I do the swap do you think anyone would buy my engine?
The engine was pampered by a elderly lady before I bought it from her at 21,000 miles. Seems like a waste to just get rid of it.

I doubt very much that anyone would want to buy that used d16 engine unless the buyer were returning his car back to stock with the stock motor, but that is still not very likely. If I were you I would get an exact date when your going to get the swap done, but post your engine on thepartstrader.com and just let the bidder know when he/she can have the engine(probably a week after the entire swap to avoid a time conflict).

IMO If I had the money and the time I would do the swap, so that it would leave options open later on for tc. Of course I am sure that there would only be a few mods(???) to the turbo if you decided to go that route first and then change your mind.

someone with a crx might want it. If not, i'd want the engine to go down in a flame of glory. Ghetto rig a lawnmower engine to a cheap tubo from a junkyard and boost that sucker! no need to have it hooked up to the exhaust or anything, just need a intake pipe and hook it up to that
