Possible Build or Swap
ok...my car is burning oil..its a d16y8...its not leaking and as far as i can see and tell it isnt smoking...so im not sure whats causing it. over the winter i was going to build the motor up and turbo it..but now that it is burning oil i dont know how much time im going to have to save up for all of that. was on hmotors 2 days ago and saw that the price of a complete GSR swap dropped to $2999 +shipping. so heres my dilemma...do i wait to afford a swap which would be alot sooner or do i wait to afford building a motor and turbo kit and hope my motor isn't blown or doesnt blow in the mean time?
just want to see what others would do in this situation

Re: Possible Build or Swap (Probot)
All of the above: Swap a built turbo D.
Get a D15B VTEC, and tear it down. You'll be able to rebuild it with less of a crucial timeframe, since you'll still have your DD. It'll cost only like 400 for a longblock. Get a good turbo to compliment the ensuing build, and pop it all in at once, schedule a tune, and enjoy the SOHC power.
Just my .02 as a SOHC guy.

Re: Possible Build or Swap (BlackoutVTi)
yea, i was planning on using the Full-Race Stage 1 GT kit..its like 4100.
i have a D series block in my friends garage..i just dont have the funds right now for all the work that will have to get done. i was aiming for winter time to be completely financially comfortable while i spend a lot of money buying the parts, sending the block out, upgrading the valves, camshaft, springs, etc, thermal r&d 3" exhaust...along with the turbo kit...but now i dont know if the motor will make it that far and i definitely dont have the cash right now to do all that plus the turbo kit. was really looking forward to the build too.

i'm sort of lost here.
you think because your motor is burning oil its going to blow up?
and because it's burning oil you think you need to expedite your plans?
you do realize that "burning oil" won't make your car "blow up"?

Re: (instrument)
well...if you gave your car an oil change and about 3200 miles later there isnt a drop in it...no leaks, not smoking..would you think that is normal?
plus my last motor that blew..had same thing..wasnt smoking, wasnt leaking..started knocking...then blew.
and the way my luck has been lately - im just preparing for the worst.
