determining engine year
is there a way to determine what year an engine was made in (not stock engine)?
somebody said there is a stamp on the exhaust or intake manifold, but not too sure.

If you have the ECU that came with the engine, that is usually a good indicator. On it you'll find a stamp of the year and month in which the ECU was made, leading you to a fairly good idea of when the engine was assembled as well.
Hmm, on my SOHC ZC, theres a little circle thats stamped onto the head that reads (9|0) which would indicate its a 1990. I think all other engines are like that too. Its on the front of the head, above the headers.

What kind of motor? Block code? OBD0? Size... what is it out of? Why do you need to know?</TD></TR></TABLE>
its a d16a6. OBD0. its out of a crx si. i need to know cuz...i need to know what year engine parts to get for it!

wait, is it in the same spot where the engine code is?

engine code is on the block...the other numbers like the date is on the front of the head. between 4-3 exhaust...should say PM3-? then 8/8 in a circle next to it. 8/8 for 1988...i think you get what other years would be.

why would you need to know what year the d16a6 is to get the right parts for it? A d16a6 is a d16a6. Im guessing you need to know so bad because a guy at autozone or somewhere asked for it? just tell him its for a 91 crx si and all your parts will show up in the computer.
and yea, the year is stamped in a circle on the head between two of the runners. Your header flange might be covering it up, i forgot.
side note - if your motor is stamped as a 1990, it came out of a car made in 1991.

the d16a6 is in a 88 HF right now. the engine is not starting, and i need to know what year the engine is from to see if im using the right engine harness. the 88 si is also a little different from the 89-91 si engines.
and drjon, no its not cuz some *** like you at autozone or somewhere asked for the year of my engine. does it make you feel good to make condescending guesses?

88 has no fast idle thermo valve on the back of the intake manifold...there is a blank spot for it but it is not machined out. also i think that the 88 runs on a higher oil pressure. but if you cant get it started that wont help much.
