Default vtec probs HELP????

Im having probs with my car after driving the vehicle for a while I try to downshift

and rev the car past 5k I am unable to a rev limiter of some sort kicks and and im

unable to let the vtec kick in...im thinking its the apexi vtec controller Ive sodered

all the wires in correctly...I checked the resistance of the vtec seloniod and its

within the factory specs...so i look back at the instructions for the vtec controller

and wiring diagram...there is a blue wire for the VTM signal it says for cars

equipped with vtm I look at the diagram for my year and it doesnt list a vtm signal

so I dont install it....now I look at the Acura service manual from acura and it list a

VTM wire???????? Im very confused I trust honda more then apexi's crappy

diagrams what should I do by not connecting this blue wire could this be the problem with the car not going past 5k?? PLEASE HELP

first off, help would be quicker if it was easier to read your initial post..

secondly, is the feeling that of a fuel cutoff or a revlimiter? As in, are you able to bounce off of it, or is it just cutting fuel without the dramtic bucking?

third, are you able to rev past 5k at all? i'm asking, because you mentioned downshifting to do this? does it always happen, or only after driving the vehicle for awhile?

fourth, trust the shop manual for what wires are in the car's harness, not the VAFC's thing.. find that wire, hook it up, see if it works..

further info, as emailed by spoon 1:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by SPOON 1 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">the car does this after it was been driving for a while during intial startup and driving I can get the vtec to kick in no prob...

I have my doubts about the apexi controller I think it is the cause of it but whats only confusing me is that it doesnt occur right away only when the car has been driving for a while...

I cant get it past 5k I feel it is a fuel cut off since the car bucks any ideas will deffinatly help...could it be that I didnt use the VTM wire?? I dont see how this could affect it thanks again
</TD></TR></TABLE>

the part about it not becoming a problem til after the car has been driving for awhile is what really throws me off about all this..

does the car drive normally under 5k RPM all the time?

It really seems to me that the VAFC is the culprit on this, somehow.. Recheck all your connections on this and see if you can find and hookup this VTM wire(not that i'm familiar with it, but it sounds as if it should be hooked up)..

My old Si did something like this when it would cross into boost(JRSC) and it was because of a bad ignition and distributor.. But it would do it all the time if I crossed into boost..

Any one else got any ideas/suggestions?

well i was looking over the service manual and the apexi book then looking over the wiring and I think I figured out the problem.....there has to be 12v when vtec kicks in being that at around 5k there has to be 12v...the VTM controls that vtec pressure switch makes sure that there is at least 12v so Im going to hook up the vtm wire too it man never trust that apexi instructions what a bunch of crap!! anyways thanks for your help

I have on obd2a car as well and you definitely need to wire up the VTM wire. It'll fix your problem.

Good luck!

thanks Gee3 you had the same prob as well?? it doesnt really shock me that the diagrams are so crappy but what an important connection to forget and to list it on the scamatics that the 98 spec doesnt have vtm but rather they state the 94-96 years do I wounder if its backwards anyways thanks for your help guys

Yeah, the Apexi instructions suck. The ecu diagram they had wasn't the same one on my car so I had to match my ecu with the correct diagram. I think that's where a lot of people are having problems. Hopefully this will fix your problem.
