Default Can someone explain.. 13.5 psi & Stock Honda Map Sensor

So yeah. How does it work?
With hondata, I ran 13.5 pounds o' boost on the stock map sensor. The maps looked fine, power was great, no fuel cut, no codes..... the tuner said it was fine... Why is that?

doesn't the honda stock map only read 11.5 psi? I'm confused.
Heh, thanks.

If I'm not mistaken the stock map sensor is a 2 bar map sensor that can read up to 15lbs, the only issues that it might have is the diaphram? might bust from what I've heard in the past.

Ive tested this, and my stock map sensor stopped reading above 11.7 psi.

i know what u mean. i'm pushing 12 on my stock map, with the s200. however, when u look at your high speed fuel map on the datalog, notice what the furthest collum you end up using is. it ends up being diffrent than what your boost gauge will read most of the time.

That's what I've always though/been told/read.

My boost gauge read 13.5, as did the dynopack(was hooked up to a vacuum source)

the map sensor doesnt have to be dead nuts on compared to absolute pressure. it just has to tell the difference between vacuum and WOT, so it is not manufactured / calibrated to do so.

So either I'm not really running 13 lbs of boost? Or I am risking breaking something? I still don't understand exactly.

Thanks.

If you richen out your last BOOST COL. you can run a litle more boost. I'm boosting 14psi with stock MAP on a UBRDATA prog.

what was the absolute boost ?

the guage isnt always what the map sensor sees

i was seein 25 psi and neptune was seeing 20 psi (this was in colorado)
it shouldnt be that far off on socal, but i would go off of absolute, not guage

Damn guys this is an old post. To answer the questions you can run 13psi on a stock map sensor, but you need to tune the last column conservatively. As in tune the last column for 13psi. The map sensor will think you are only at 11.7psi, but if its tuned conservative there then it will work.

If you are not taking the pressure reading close to the ITM, you might be seeing the boost pressure before the change in pressure after the intercooler.

*If I am wrong than disregaurd this.

You can run over what the map sensor would read for boost but you won't be able to set boost cut and you basically tune the last column as if it's what ever boost your actually running. I definitely wouldn't recommend it because if your wastegate fails and the car goes from 13psi to 20psi there's nothing to save your *** at all. It will lean out and pop your motor. Get a 4 bar and have it tuned safely with a boost cut set. Stock maps are good for anything under about 9psi so you have a little cushion between the boost your running and your fuel cut. I've found most stock map sensors generally only read to about a 10.5-10.7 lbs
