Map sensor OR Missing Link for AFC hack
I have 450cc DSM injectors and a VAFC. Word on the street is that you can only boost about 10-11 lbs of the stock map sensor. I'm looking to boost about 15lbs daily. Anything over that, you need another map sensor or a missing link. Which one is better? Synape Engineering says that using a map sensor is bad http://www.synapseengineering.com/html/wml_3.html
From what I understand, letting your map senor see bost helps the car go from vacuum to boost smoother, so I would think that it's better to run a map. I can't back this up though, that's just how I understood it. Anyone else?

You're probably running too rich. Lean your settings out a little.

you can run a missing link with AFC but it won't run right and will be impossible to tune. you can run a 3 bar with it also but it won't run right and will be impossible to tune.
you have outgrown your "hack" and need to step up to some real engine management.

LOL cool!! Turn up the boost and tell us how it goes! You must have discovered somthing new..

Map sensor must see boost w/ hack or you get NO FUEL added. Hello!

AS stated before your have outgrown your vafc hack. u need to upgrade to ureberdata, hondata, AEM EMS, or the greddy EManage and E-01. the vafc will not control your timming or the 3bar. the 3bar must be controlled by something, such as a standalone or the greddy unit. also anything over 10psi u need timming control. greddy Emanage and E-01 will run u around 700 bucks but its a nice setup for the price. fully tunable fuel maps. idle controls, boost controls, and ignition maps that u can adjust. all able to be adjusted from the seat of your car. and no delay on the settings where on urberdtata and hondata things have the be burned and chipped.

i'm not against the 3 bar. i'm against the hack. there is no point using the hack when there are FREE rom editors out there.

you could make it work with a 3 bar map sensor* and some subtraction, but man it would be a hassle and rediculous. just chip your ecu and stop using map sensor voltage manipulation.

I agree, i think that with all that is out there, people should actually take advantage of this stuff. I dont know if people are afraid to learn this or what. It looks bad a first, but its really not. Rom editors are the way to go. visit pgmfi.org to get educated on them.

Ok, so where can I find a rom editor for OBDI. How will I know what to change in the code?

People should really just go standalone in the first place. IMHO. If you have an OBD-II car, the cost of going chipped on OBD-I will be a big fraction of a Haltech, and provide you with none of the support or information.
VAFC is a cheap hack that works for a lot of people on low boost.

DIY OBD2-OBD1 conversion harness = $25
OBD1 ECU = $15
Misc parts to chip/socket ECU, or, god help you, convert to VTEC = $15
Cheap Willem chip burner, or OMG WTF RTP daughterboard = $50
Total expenditure is a little over $100, all the information on how to DIY is located at http://www.pgmfi.org, and I don't call 1/20th a large fraction. And, support? Support? You ******* ignorant inconsiderate asshat, why don't you ask anyone who's PMed me or called my cell phone OR GOD HELP ME USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION @ PGMFI.ORG or contacted one of the many other active, knowledgible people on this forum for help with ECU chipping if there isn't FREE support for this.

In this part of the world the shipping alone will run me the prices you quoted. You can't run all cars well off the OBD-I ecu - I have a H22 Prelude. OBD-I ecu's are going for $150-200 when I looked. A good job on the harness is going to cost more than $25. If you want to sell me a OBD-I ecu and harness for $40, give me a number to call.
Don't call me an asshat, and I might be inconsiderate, but I am far from ignorant. I don't imagine that the "support" from AEM will react in the same way you just did. Running a hacked ECU is not the same thing as a standalone.
