Default gas flap, where art thou?

Anybody had a problem where this gas flap disappeared?.. this is the metal flap that is hinged to open when you insert the nozzle for fuel.. I've felt around and it doesn't look to be stuck in an open position, so the only place it could be is in the filler neck or the tank..
I know there is a 'sock' where the fuel lines come out of the tank which keeps out large objects, so i am fairly safe that this will not clog the fuel lines if in fact this flap is sitting in the gas tank...
basically any harm in not having this thing as I really don't fell like pulling out the tank to try and find it.. if not is it an easy install (i think the entire filler neck needs to be replace?)

Ah, ok. I thought it was a universal thing. I wonder why they would remove it...

My 00 doesn't have a flap... I went as far as going to the dealer and opening the gas flap on the 00 ITR in the show room, amist the salesman saying "If you really need gas that bad we'll fill it up for you.."
