Default Block guard ?'s...

Okay I know about the block guards and what they do and all of that... Also I know they will never compare to a sleeve job, but how about if you were to use more than one of them in the build up. Let's say 3 of them push down. Will it be any better, has anybody tried this before???

Just curious. I'm in the process of building a b18c and it'll be really expensive for me to have the sleeves done since I'll have to send the motor out of state to do it...

a buddy of mine has tried this and his motor is running just fine. only he's using 2 instead of the 3 you've mentioned. he also had both of them tack welded in which was a pain in the *** to do to the bottom one. he also bored the holes on the bottom blockguard to twice the size they were originally allowing more coolent to pass thru.

Thats a interesting question. That would depend on a couple of variables.
1) The blockguards are all the same (measurements,ie: coolant jacket sizes)
2) If there is any distortion of the sleeves as the tap this block guard down the coolant jacket.
3) How well it keeps temps (could cause alot of hot spots in the cylinder)

thats what I would be worried about, other than that it sounds like a good idea to me.

Sounds like you'd be better off pinning the sleeves than using 2-3 block guards.

Not 100% sure, but it would seem to me you would have hot spots at each location of the guards on the cylinder. Not to mention the restricted coolant flow and pressure that would build up in those areas.

Ever heard of block posting? If you want to cheap out, why not go with something like this. Its eliminates the concerns mentioned above and will secure the cylinders at the top and the bottom/middle, which is what you are wanting.

Here are some threads on it:
