Default LEGEND water pump

hey guys,

my neighbor has a 95 legend. the stealership he got it from is saying that he needs a new water pump. the car is overheating, but there is flow in the hoses, the thermostat does open, and there is no CEL. i told him to check his radiator but he is just going to pay the $800. shouldnt the water pump give a CEL? what else could be his problem besides trusting a shady dealer?

from what ive heard legends do have headgasket problems. test the cooling system to make sure there arent any leaks.
how would it be the water pump? isnt it belt driven? so it either works or it doesnt.
unless of course it has a bad bearing and coolant is leaking from there

check the radiator for exhaust gas, and engine oil. if either of them are there, then you have a leak, or a blown headgasket

Hahaha, you call the dealership thieves and then spout off about the water pump giving a CEL. No it won't!!! And yes, it could be the water pump causing overheating, it is possible the impeller fins are rusted right off. Likely has overheated and cooked the heads. The C32 is also prone to causing the cylinder liners to separate when they get hot. Net result, the block is toast and you are looking for a used engine.
My advice, be nice wherever your buddy takes it in case it is a chunky bill. No point pissing off the guy fixing it with a crappy attitude.

Would the water pump be the issue if you start your car after it has been sitting for like 3 hours or more and it shoots to "hot" and does not come down? I changed one of the lights behind the dash and ever since then it has been reading hot. I replaced the thermostat and the upper radiator hose, because it had collassed.

The old Legends have HG issues due to leaky radiators and ignorant owners. People driving around with the temp gauge pegged at H doesnt help the situation. Pressurize the cooling system and check for leaks. Dont attempt to diagnose this yourself(thinking the h20 pump will cause a CEL gave away your knowledge of cars).
