Default Disc brakes and sway bar installed. Impressions.

Install:

Rear suspension, cake. Master Cylinder, cake. Proportioning valve, sucks.

There is one thing to be very careful with. The nuts that connect the brake fluid lines together. They are on very tight due to corrosion and such. Be sure not to strip them out. Stripping one means new brake line. I heated the nuts connecting to the prop valve with a torch. This helped tons. Still, each nut stripped a little. Also during the heating process some brake fluid boiled, built up pressure, and exploded on me. Kinda scary but didn't hurt too bad.

Make sure all fittings are on tight before bleeding the brakes. I must have missed one and after bleeding my car for what seemed like forever I finally figured out one of mine were loose.

Driving Impressions:

I only got on my brakes hard a couple times...they seemed stronger. Plus less pedal effort. The most impressive thing to me is the Si rear sway bar. Man, why don't all civics come with a rear bar stock? My car takes the corners way better. There is less tire squeal when not turning at the limit. Overall it makes the car feel much more stable. Quick lane changes are much nicer too.

Oh, the disc brakes are easier to work on, and look much better!

Yuck, Drums.

mmmm....discs.....

This is true. I want to bleed my brakes some more this weekend.....the pedal isn't as firm as I would like it to be. I think I still may be able to see some more improvement.

Looks clean!!! How thick is that rear sway bar from the Si by the way (in mm.) Did you have to weld or drill?

I belive the stock Si bar is 17mm.....not huge, but much better then no bar.

Oh, no welding, drilling or anything was required. 6th gen civics come predrilled with all the holes you need for the swaybar. The chassis has the necessary holes, and so do the LCAs.

The bar was bolt on......I like!

I want disc brakes! I want dick brakes! I was looking into some sort of upgrade or conversion. AEM offers a rear disc brake conversion for my car, but for 800 bucks they can keep their pretty anodized upgrades. I've heard of doing a disc brake conversion using the GSR brakes and now the Si. Anybody know of the best place to look for theses parts? I'd like to get a conversion package if possible!! Damnit, why didn't they just make these hondas with all this tight upgraded **** in the first place? Oh yeah, I forgot........they made Acura. Damn it! I want an Acura! I want an Acura!

g6 ('99-00) Si stock sway bar is 14mm just like g3 Tegs. Pretty small but still makes a noticeable difference from NO bar at all. I had a '97 DX HB that I sold and bought a '01 EX a month ago. The DX had no sway bar and the new EX has a 12mm sway. I could tell it had a sway bar by the way it cornered. My '97 DX had more body roll too. Anyway, I was in a coworker's '01 LX coupe today and man did it have tons of bodyroll! Then it hit me that it has no sway bar. My EX leans much less when cornering with only a 12mm sway. It also changes lanes quicker. It makes a big difference. Now imagine if you had a 19 or 22mm! Just a 19mm on my GSR did wonders. Too bad noone is making sway bars for g7 Civics yet. I can't wait. This car also need stiffer shocks & springs. I feel like I 'm in my dad's Cadilac sometimes. Too bouncy and soft. My '97 DX had a much better firmer ride. If I wanted a soft bouncy car I would 've bought a fricking Lincoln or family sedan. They really screwed up with the suspension on this gen for sure.. but nothing some aftermarket stuff can't fix! If only the aftermarket manufacturers didn't work that slow.. I guess it's better when they take their time and come out with a good product, instead of rushing and giving you a crappy one..

Thanks for the good comments everyone!

What the heck does PITA mean?

I dont know if I mentioned it before, but I bought a complete wrecked Si(missing the driver door) and took lots off stuff off of it, including the brakes, engine, , fuel pump, cluster, seats, etc....the stuff I didn't use I sold. Great deal!

Hell...here is a pic of it.

Why didn't you just fix the Si and build off of it? Or do you enjoy being a sleeper?

Cuz the frame was bent as F*ck, roof buckled, side opposite to the hit buckled, etc. It looks kinda good in that pic, but trust me....it got T-boned by a ford truck that must have been going 40mph plus.

Bang! Dead Si...so sad. I love those cars.

PITA = pain in the assssss.... sorry.

okay nice work then! I see now, the civic SI must have been toast! where did you get it?
that is exactly what I need to do for my poor CX hatch.... it needs everything a SI or G3 teg has to offer.......
thanks man.

Yea, the valve is PITA.

Here is how I found the car.

One day my friend, who always says stupid **** to be funny comes to my house and tells me he saw a 99 Si for sale for 4900...holy **** I think. He must be messin with me again. So, we drive to a junkyard about a mile from my house and sure enough. There is an Si parked up front. From the drivers side the car looked almost perfect, until we got out and saw the passanger side.

I talked to the owner, and the day after first seeing the car I scraped up 4200. I told the junkyard owner that is all I could get, he made a phone call, and took my offer. Good thing cuz this ricey dude I know almost bought the Si that day also!

i just put the skunk 2 22mm on my hatch and didn't feel hardly a thing. there is still plenty of body roll. i thought it would tighten up substantially. but i was dissapointed..... however prior to this i had complete chassis stiffening elements...all teh tie bars front rear upper lower...no roll cage though. also had tweaked koni/GCs .....i dunno i was real dissapointed..

application was 96 hatch.

why didn't you swap the booster with the master cycl? i can imagine its more of a pain....but let me know i need to do this soon..... have disks all around and now looking into prop valve and mastercyl/booster. please email me HXman if you have a minute. dusty@junglist.com

thanks

Its unfortunate I didn't take the booster out of the Si before I got rid of it.

I don't know, will it make a difference? I thought the boosters were all the same pretty much. But I could easily be wrong.
