I think you might be totally lost here, 100% atmosphere, you don't put anything on it unless you want to route the released air back to the intake stream.

He's not totaly lost. lots of people put filters on their BOVs to keep out dirty air at high vacume. some even come with them, blitz i think does.

I guess you mean a filter on the outlet of the BOV (where the stunna sound comes from) not a breather for the bottom of the diaphram like the vortec has (the 1G dsm has a built in diaphram vent that goes into the flange base and into the charge pipe) Hope that doesn't confuse you.

Anyway--- K&N makes a 'mini filter' with a same approximate dimentions as the valvecover ones except the inlet is an inch or so. People use them for an air pump filter on many diffrent VWs. And they are not garbage quality like a Ractive OBX type-x poop stick one.

call up RPIequipped.com and ask for an air pump filter for a 99 2.0 jetta. they are about 14 bucks i think and come with a clamp. Just act really Euro and pretend you are wearing a black turtleneck and smoking a butt and they will ship it right out.... it should fit fine and is the cleanest, highest quality way i can think of doing this.

you could rig up a regular autozone peice of sh*t but that would suck IMO so why bother. I woulden't use a reducer from the bov to the valve cover sized filter because it may not be able to force enough air through the small opening to prevent compressor surge/bearing damage. It might sound cool though, nahhh

I don't know, call around to all the Euro performance places. I know they fit other cars too but this is the most common fitment I deal with.

I think 96-03 VWs use them with some of the engines depending on year and emissions trim, but mostly the 2.0 4 and sometimes the 2.8 VR6. A 98 would actually be less confusing because there were two body styles that year. So, ask for a "K&N air pump mini filter for a '98 Jetta 2.0"

This is the filter that comes with some of the popular intakes for veedubs like ABD & Neuspeed. Some generic intakes use the same K&N cone and minifilter too..Like RPIs, sooooo they have the little filters laying around to put in their 'house brand' version of the neuspeed style intake.
I'm sure you can find it elsewhere but I get them from RPI. K&Norwhatever.com probably has a listing for an even better size filter, maybe a little longer to flow more?

Another solution is to use a 32mm ATV air filter. They are about 10 bucks on eBay.
The K&N 1.25" filter is about 30-40 bucks and it is much longer than an ATV filter. So that's something else to consider if you don't have much room for the filter.

DSM bov opening is about 1.25" which is roughly 32mm
