Default problem with my Accord

I have searched everywhere and cannot find anyone else with the exact same problem with their 91 Accord as me (similar but not exactly). Anyways, I only experience this problem about half of the time I drive it, which hasn't been very much cause I just got it. What happens is, after several minutes of driving the car, the sport function will turn off and on by itself. I don't believe it is giving codes (I may be wrong), but I think it is just turning off and on at it's own will regardless of whether the button is on or off. Depending on my current RPMs and what gear I'm in, it will sometimes downshift. If I come to a stop or slow down, it wont go back down to first or second gear. It is like it will start in third or forth, thus having no power until I reach like 30mph. If I start in D1 then shift up from there it will drive fine, but obviously I want to correct the situation.

I believe I know what may need to be done but don't want to say, I want to know if anyone else has the same idea as me before do what I think I need to do to fix it. (By the way, I know the previous owner, and she said this had just began and that's why she was selling it. She didn't feel like dealing with getting it looked at and fixed. I got the car for $300 )

Thanks in advance.

I was thinking possibly the speed sensor was messed up. So you think if I replaced the transmission ECM that would most likely correct the problem?

This happened in my accord, and I think its pretty common. Its the VSS if i remember correctly.

Try a search, this has been covered plenty of times.

And $300? Thats a steal!

You can check to see if the transmission is throwing any codes - here's a very good how-to thanks to 93MikeAccord from HondaSociety:

if your speedometer is working just fine, then its not your VSS. theres a write up about this problem on tech2tech. here is the link

http://www.tech2tech.net/T2T_TSB/T2T017.pdf

. they say its a bad spot on the TCM. Using the problems you described.. its very unlikely it is your VSS.
