2 amps and alot of engine noise!! help please
Im gettin alot of engine noise from my 4 main speakers its driving me crazy. I have all rockford fosgate rca's ground power wire etc....is there anything out there that will eliminate the engine noise thru the speakers or reduce it ALOT...please let me know, thanks!
you have 3 easy options.
1> redo your grounds. this means the ones for all your amps plus the radio. Make sure they are good.
2> run a grounding wire from the chassis of your radio (ground) to the ground on your amp. This way if there is a voltage difference (ground loop) the grounding wire will carry the extra current, not the RCA lines.
3> This sorta goes in hand with step 2, use a DC isolator. It does the same sort of thing as the grounding wire except it uses transformers to isolate the path in the RCA's, so the DC can't travel from the radio to the amp via the RCA's

does #2 really work? is it the grounds that cause that noise? what gauge would you recomend?
I thought it was the running of the wires close to eachother

yes, both amps are grounded at the same point. i checked it its nice and tight...is it bad to have them at the same point?.....my 4 gauge power wires runs along side the drivers side...then all my RCA's and speaker wire runs along the passenger side......then for my 2 amp ground wires they are noth on the drivers side rear where the seats fold down...oh and also I have a 1 fared cap (RF if that matters) and that is just laying under the amps, not mounted and by all the wires...i be this has something to do wth it cause i get massive engine noise so i dont even listen to the radio..thanks guys

yea grounds are usually the problem, however i used the best possible grounds i could right on top of each other and less than 3 inches and i still had engine noise, i just used a noise filter on the RCA's of the my 2nd amp and i have no more noise
I've never had noise.
Grounds are over 1 foot apart. I use cheap RCA's, and I've had my power and signal wires run down the same side of the car.

^Please tell me that you aren't referring to the hinge thing that attaches to the top half of the seats.
I used my seatbelt mounting points.

What kind of head unit do you have? I was having a similar problem to you. I am running two Rockford Fosgate amps with some Stinger RCA's. I have the power and the RCA's on different sides of the car, ground is short and tight and I was getting all kinds of noise. I spent the entire afternoon grounding and regrounding and still no better. Finally, just out of curiosity, I took my ride to a local stereo shop and had them put in a new deck to see what would happen. ......... Viola........no noise at all. I have a Pioneer DEH P7000 that I have had for a while. WHile it is a good deck, I have pulled it in and out of cars a few times and must have slightly messed up one of the RCA connections between the deck and the pigtails that come out of the back of the unit.........I knew/have heard that Pioneers are historically a little more noisey than some other brands, but recently I was also told that they sometimes have their connections come loose. This may or may not be 100% accurate, but in my case the Pioneer HU causes massive noise and a new Pioneer HU is perfectly quiet. THis may not be your problem, but if all else fails, check the HU - it may be the culprit. Good luck! Believe me, I know how ANNOYING road noise is! haha
