My 97 Civic EX S40 tranny started to grind once in a while when I would shift into 2nd gear. Over time it came to the point when I would let off the accelerator in 2nd gear, it would pop out into neutral. When I would accelerate, it was fine. Only when I would take me foot off the gas after accelerating.

Now, when I shift into 2nd and then let out the clutch, it would just grind and would not grab 2nd at all. Just grinding. Is that the synchro?

Then just last week I got into my car, started it, and tried to put it into 1st gear to take off...I couldn't put it into 1st. I tried the other gears and to no avail! I had a friend step on the clutch petal and I watched the fork move.

Is this a clutch/pressure plate issue? What should I be looking for? I just pulled off the tranny and I am seeking advice. Thanks.

I have the same issue, but with the stock clutch. My pressure plate went out and replaced it with ACT XT Clutch Kit. If it's the synchros, it would be only for that gear. Also, check your slave cylinder fluid level.
