Default anyone try using motorcycle gauges for custom cluster???

ok i was on my friends kawasaki a couple days ago and realized that his gauge cluster was exactly what i was looking for. I was planning on building a custom gauge cluster for my 89 civic, and had my eyes on the Autometer 160mph speedo and 10K tach in the 3 3/8" size....

so after seeing his cluster i went on ebay to check some out and it looks like most motorcycle gauges are about 4 inches, and most have 140-180mph limits and 10-12K rpm limits...which seems perfect. Then i could just remove which gauges i need and place them in a custom layout the shape of my stock cluster so i will fit.

so anyone ever try doing this??

those were just a few...

biggest problem i've foreseen is that some use both a mechanical speedo and mechanical tach...then the brand new ones usually have a lcd type speedometer...i'm just trying to find one with a mechanical speedometer and an electric tachomter? we'll see what i can dig up...then if i find something i'll definitely post some pictures.

I've never seen that done before, but I think it's a damn good idea. If you make it happen, I gotta see pics

For some reason I can see someone putting those guages with a stock D16 powered DX.... sigh.

I'd like to see a built N/A beast that can actually reach those kinds of speeds/RPM.

i've been emailing these people with clusters and it seems that the average size of speedo and tach is like 4" that would be perfect to fit in most dashes. Now i just need to find a cheap one cause i have no cash to spend frivolously on this project...

anyone know where i can get rigid plastic sheets, what is abs plastic? like the dash texture?

There's a place in San Diego called Ridout Plastics. They sell all types of plastics in different sizes, small and big. They might have what you're looking for: http://www.ridoutplastics.com/
