a6 head or z6 head?
Anyone have a d16a6 mini-me? is it worth it? what kinda gains?
Which would put out more power? Right now i have the a6 head on but before i sell the z6 head. would it put out more power then the z6 do you think? what should i do? sell the z6 or keep and sell a6. Going to just have topend work and keep bottomend stock. I want 140whp range.
(have ported z6 manifold with a 60mm h23 TB, intake Mani is port matched to TB)
bottomend
d16a6 w/ 57,000 miles
a6 head:
-P&P, no mill, PYR stage3 cam (race)
-The a6 pulls from 4,000-6,000 and then above 6,000 is when the cam really screams. DX tranny and DX ECU is really killing me but I'm getting the ECU rechipped and i have a Si tranny to get installed. 9.1:1 compression
z6 head:
-stock, 40,000 miles, no mill (as of right now)
-The z6 would get a .035 mill, p&p, y8 head gasket. would have around 11.1:1 compression with the mill and y8 head gasket. (correct me if wrong)

common now, anyone?
I just wanna know what should I do. Would i get more out of the Vtec head or does the A6 make just as much power. Would i feel more power with the Vtec head because of the compression increase? anyone??

I'd say that you should stick to the tried and true a6 head.. IMO the mini-me setup is mostly hype, and it would be better to just get the whole z6 swap if you really wanted an SOHC VTEC motor..
Im not just talking out of my ***, im speaking from experience. A few years ago i was running around with a stock d16a6 with a JG 301 cam, i/e/h , and prospeed ECU.. it pulled pretty nicely, but was not much faster than a stock healthy d16a6. the timing belt decided to snap and i was forced to change the head.
I was all for the a6 block/ z6 head combo.. the head was eventually milled and hot tanked to remove dirt. Started right up.. and i used the Fields VTEC controller for fuel and vtec activation. I was never able to get the timing right, and it seemed like everytime i added a modification, the motor would run too rich at idle and to lean on the upper RPMs.
Now im back to the good old d16a6.. with some headwork, web cam, prospeed ecu, i/h/e, and my latest addidtion.. A/C!! it pulls very hard.. i went side by side the other night with a buddy on this board who owns a 99 GSR with JDM 4-1, SMSP cat, Comptech exhuast, and AEM CAI... d16a6 just responds better to mods than a z6 does in my opinion.

may not really answer your quest but since you already have that a6 head and cam, id get a 1.6 block with p29/a1 pistons. mill the head maybe .020, y8 headgasket, and let it rip. plus you have a head and piston who's valve and relief locations match up the right way.

Yeah, you're right on the money here...the mini-me is all about proper tuning. And since there's so many variables in putting one together, it's hard to duplicate results from project to the next. Some guys have fantastic power, some are plagued with tuning gremlins they'll never fix. The best all around general advice is to do a OBD1/ P28 conversion.
And the OEM parts bin high compression A6 is a good alternative. That's part of where the mini-me gets its hp edge...good call.

On another note, a buddy of mine whom i sold my z6 head to, did a mini-me conversion of his d16a6.. he did the full obd-1/ p28 ecu conversion.. it runs nicely, very smooth. Its just not as strong as people expect it to be. he dynoed at 110 whp.
