Default Is this motor vtec???

Hey i just bought this motor and the guy doesnt know anything about it. can anyone tell me if its vtec or not? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...58383

im lookin for an explanation because this motor is exactly what i see when i look at a d16y8.

no thats a D16Y7. you can tell because you can see the bottom of the air box/intake manifold in that picture. there is no vtec.

i'm almost positive that this engine is vtec, the spark plugs are up front. non vtec plugs are in back

VTEC soleniod?

-nope.

Y8 intake manifold?

-uh, nope.

Also, the 02 sensor is in a different spot than on a Y8 exhaust manifold.

he is right, that came out of a 1997 dx, vtec motors have the throttle body facing sideways, the d16y7 that came on the 1996-2000 civic dx's has a upward facing throttle body

If you need an engine to get the car on the road, who cares if it's VTEC, $100 is a good price for a low mileage D16 with a warranty. What's it going into?

Well it was a 100 bucks for a motor and tranny with 50-60k miles on it so i didnt really care considerin my motor just blew up and i dont have a lot of money to get it runnin again. anywayz thanx for clearin everything up for me.
