Does the JDM B16a2 really put out 8 more HP then the USDM version?
The JDM B18C SiR-G puts out 10 more horsepower than the USDM B18C1 GS-R
170:180
I don't think the JDM B16A puts out more than the USDM version though...

jdm b16a is rated at 170 hp. (this is 2nd gen, from the eg) Compression is rated at 10.4:1 compared to 10.2:1 in the american b16's. But I don't understand how that little bump in comp. can make ten horsies.
So im guessing that the JDM version would cost a little more than the USDM? Im not even sure if mine is a JDM or a USDM. By just looking at it, how can you tell which is which? I heard that the JDM doesnt label it as a b16a2. It is just called a JDM b16a. That is weird and kinda confusing. Does anybody have anymore info?

jdm motors dont have the number at the end of the b16aX . someone told me that jdm motors make more power cause of the slight bump in compression and the more aggresive timing due to higher octane gas they sell there. please feel free to correct me if im wrong
right, the stamp on the engine just says "B16A" plus the JDM engine will have a hydraulic clutch versus a cable clutch. The ECU is different, with a 200 RPM redline increase I think. Not that that's something you can tell easily
But that may be part of the increase in HP too. I think they have better cams than the USDM B16s also.
This is mostly information I have gleaned from hanging around the shop during the course of my swap project.

no actually they are a hell ova alot easier to find and cheaper just because the usdm b16a was only found in 99-00 si and del sols...in japan they first had em in the 2nd gen CRXs and every civic after that ....

Oh yeah... thats right. I completely forgot about that. Im guessing most of us have the JDM version then. Well they say that the JDM has 10 more horses due to the bump in the compression but are they really any faster than the USDM version?
the differences between JDM and USDM (2nd gen)
10.4 vs 10.2 c/r
more aggressive cams
ecu with more aggressive fuel and timing as well as 200rpm redline
from expirence JDM ecu (p30) seems to be the most improvement over usdm p30, intake cam also adds a little, as far as compression remeber that there is a tolerance meaning +-.01-02 c/r in either engine....
on dynos there is a definate 3-6hp improvement...not more then that....
