more temp gauge problems
I posted a thread last week about my temp gauge not working. A lot of people responded and recomended that I change my sending unit. I finally got around to it today and was disapointed to see that my temp gauge still doesn't work. Does anybody have any other ideas of what it might be????
what are you talking about changing the sending unit bro???
did you try changing the radiator cap?
or
did you think of changing the particular gage from the cluster?

The gauge doesn't work at all. The thermostat was changed not too long ago. I have heard that it might be the gauge itsself, but how do i get to it to change it? Is it easy or do I have to tear a bunch of things out to get to it? It seems that everybody was confident about the sending unit until it failed. I'd like to get this problem fixed fast cause I'm gonna be driving back from vegas in a few days in the middle of the day and i don't want to burn anything up. As for the radiator cap, what will that do? Will that help my gauge problem or was it just some fun suggestion? Help me out folks.
I don't know what car you have, but maybe this is about the same for all...
Unplug the sender, ground the wire. Turn on the ignition & watch the temperature needle climb. MAKE SURE YOU TURN IT OFF BEFORE IT GETS ALL THE WAY UP. If you let it go all the way up you can fry the gauge. If this doesn't work, you can take out the cluster & check the wiring. Got an electrical diagram for that?
My Helm books have the resistance of the sender at different temperatures. The way to check the sender is to put it in a pot of hot water along with a thermometer, and measure it's resistance.
