Been there-did that with the 96 HB. Used a Hurst and it worked fine for nearly 3 years. Tranny replacment cost over $2000. I have a brand new-in the box- CRX unit made by NEuspeed that is tuned better for the synchros. If you are really worried try replacing ALL of the bushings and O-rings in the shifter assembly. That will tighten things up and have no negative effect on the gearbox.

Um.....not to be the dick new guy but i've been around cars for quite a long time and i've never heard of "Tuning" a shifter for the syncros. About all that can go wrong is "overshifting the syncros" or shifting to fast for the syncros to handle wearing them out faster. You want a long lasting tranny? Shift smothly, not slowly but smothly, there is a difference.

I agree w/ The Converted, I have a B&M SS that is pretty nice, I would prefer it to be a little shorter, but it is built very well. Don't buy a cheap SS b/c you run the risk of having it snap while driving (don't ask how I know )

Hey DJ_SaNdOz, why don't you get the B&M Pro edge shifter. It allows you to adjust the throw even lower than the regular edge shifter. I have one, and it's the shortest throw I've ever felt. Also like someone said earlier, shift smoothly. Just because you have a short shifter doesn't mean that you can now shift like your Flash. Just shift like you did before, but now with the SS it takes you less time to get to the next gear which equal to shorter shifts.

I know, I broke a stock shifter going into 2nd.
I know have a cheap e-bay $10.00 short shifter now and it works great.

the skunk2 shifter and **** are designed to work together. the actual height of the shifter isn't much shorter than stock, but the throw is significantly shorter. the **** is really heavy to help pull the shifter into the next position smoothly. i like the way it feels and the way it shifts. we're starting to wonder if it's cursed though. i spun a bearing in my d15 right after getting the s2 shifter, so did the owner of the shop here. a few other people from the shop that have the shifter and **** started noticing strange noises soon after installing them.

Be careful- those shifter's are the ones I was warning against. The Ebay shifters have a bearing inside them to help shift, which isn't as good as teh stock method, and they are also made out of aluminum that likes to break while shifting.

If you want a shorter shifter, go to honda and buy a Del Sol shifter. It's WAY smaller then any other honda shifter and it's about the same size as an aftermarket.

Same shifts and nothing is going to break when shifting and it will not hurt anything in the trans. because Honda built it to work with a honda trans.

The only thing wearing out the tranny syncros is the idiots trying to pull those milliseond shifts while street racing. Smoth it out a little and you won't have any problems. And if you know how to shift you won't loose much in a 1/4 either. Or if your real hard core get a dog clutch geared tranny.

I'll vouch for the DC sports shifter. It has all the shortness you'll need. It is SAAAWEEET. In and out, In and out....thats the way my stick works

I have the Neuspeed S/S. The throws are short and best of all it doesn't hit my exhaust piping.

I have a cheapo from ebay ($13.00) and it works just fine. Just don't try to slam the gears and you'll be ok. I have been Auto-Xing mine for 2 years now with no problem.

Hell, even if it does break you can buy another one and still be cheaper than all the overpriced ones!
