Default R components into a hatch?

okay guys.... for those that don'w know.... here's a quick recap...

i got into a head on collision with a lexuz...i had the jdm front end, which is now bashed in, bash goes as far in as breaking the radiator, and i know for sure i have a broken axle, passenger side door bashed, airbags popped, the works... i think i also have frame damage...

here's my dillemma... the insurance company wants to fix it... if they're willing to give me another jdm front end... should i take it back... i absolutely love this car guys.. and i don't see any other type r's for sale here in so. cali...

or should i total it and swap engine, suspension, rims, hubs for 5 lug conv., and interior into a EK (96+) hatchback? how much would that cost? and what would i have to do to successfully do that?

or should i just buy a whole new other car altogether?

Dont buy another car. Either make the swap or keep the R.

i guess you could look at it this way:
they will never ever forever in eternity make 3rd gen R's EVER again.

but then again, you do have frame damage, and i don't know if its worth it to get it straightened. i dont think resale value for this car will be as high, i say total it, get whatever insurance is willing to pay you (which seems like a decent amount), and move on.

sorry to hear about what happened. seems like we lose one everyday.

Almost everything can swap over your going to have to pay mostly labor charges, However I would keep the car if its repairable its a 1 of a kind

i would get the hacth, from my experience, once a car is in an accident, it never drives the same. i have driven many cars that have been hit, and every one has had problems.

you are looking at around $1,500 or so for the complete swap, providing you do not do any of the work yourself and you supply all the needed parts for the conversion. this price may seem high to some, but it is a good deal if the work you get isn't shoddy.

Yeah, marrit's looks sweet as hell. I would do the Hatch. Transfer everything from your car to the hatch.

True dat.
After an accident; especially after frame damage, the car never drives the same.

okay.... let's hypothetically say that insurance gives me 19 g's for fair market value...
96 hatch = 7 g's
buying my ITR back= 5-6g's
swapping everything into hatch=1500-2g's

i might not even get that much.... so i need to be sure that i'll have enough money to swap everything...

so are you guys sure... 1500 to swap engine, whatever suspension that's not shot (back is good for sure), brakes, 5 lug conversion, rims, interior (i could do the seats myself... haha) and what about AC... i just spent 400 on AC for my R a week ago... i friggen want AC in my hatch too

thangs guys for your help

Don't keep a car that's had frame damage. It won't be the same. A hatch is the shizit as long as you do it right. Definitely put in as much of your old ITR stuff as possible, including interior.

A hatch with the same setup as your ITR should be noticeably faster. A few tenths in the quarter mile if you're looking for a number.

Keep your car if the frame is straight... here's why.

I had a Civic Ek hatch. Finished all suspension mods (spring, shocks, f/r sways, strut bars, etc.) I was ready to put the engine in, but I just couldn't help notice the damn car-shell flex in every turn and up the drive way.

Sure, you can have EK w/ 18C5 w/ all the typeR mods, but the damn shell isn't strong enough (like a real CTR should be).

If I had a choice between CTR and ITR, I would get a CTR. (better street-sleeper w/ super visibility out the back. ) But, between ITR and EK w/ ITR goods, I would hold on to the ITR. It's a once in a lifetime real deal.

You could always strentgthen the chassis. Type R's have chassis enforcers in it.

Just because it flexes doesnt mean it cant be fixed. Just because it's slow doesnt mean it cant go faster!!!!!

Oh yea... my car is bastar... hybridized crazy people

I say get the car totaled out and buy it back from insurance.

Then with your left-over money, buy a new itr. You'll have spare engine now.

Then sell the stuff off the old car: wheels, interior, rotors, gauge clusters, etc.

You have just gotten a new itr, with a spare engine at a bargain of a price.

Don't keep a wrecked car. Just not worth it.

i would get another ITR.... but it just isn't the same without the JDM front.... and i'm definately not going to shell out another 3+ grand for the jdm front again... not to mention all the other stuff i had in my R...

Honda frames are really easy to bend. They're also really easy to bend back within spec. My car, despite how the outside looks, tracks and runs better now than it ever did. The frame was tweaked about 2 inches. I will admit, I have a cage to strengthen the chassis, but I know a few others that have been tweaked and tweaked back with no problems.
