I was always under the impression that it stood for "Sports Injection" (as in the sporty model with fuel injection, first introduced in the US in 1986).

AH ha...

I did what someone should of done a while ago....

I called honda of america customer relations...

Asked them...

the guy on the phone says...

"IT IS JUST A MODEL DESIGNATION IT IS NOT AN ABREVIATION"

he said "I've spoken with the engineers" it has NO meaning...

So that's the answer I'm going to take...

When it first came out, it meant "Sequential Induction". At the time, this was novel and used on Honda's top of the line model. Now every manufacturer has this, but the name stuck as a model number.

Hate to say it, but the dealer was wrong.

S = Sports back from the old-school Civics.
Si = The first fuel injected model.

SPORT INJECTED you idiot!

The CRX and the prelude Si stamped the name with Sport Injection.

BTW, even though the 90 prelude Si motor had a bad rod-store ratio that was my favorite car that I've ever driven... Damnit I miss it... Well it wasn't at all stock, but I still loved it! Don't ask why I wrote that.

Never trust the dealer. You're lucky if you got the right filter.
