Thanks, I did find that it does stand for "Sport" "Injected". Back in the day when all hondas were carburated you could get an Accord "S" and/or a Civic "S" and then when honda started using fuel injection they added the "I" to designate that the engine was fuel "Injected". cool

Sports Injected is correct. The S versions usually had better brakes, susp, amenities, etc, compared to the DX, LX etc. The 1985(?) models the CRX/Civic Si's were the first to sport the Fuel Injection aimed at performance. Until the you only had the option of carb or fuel injection with low emissions in mind - an idea carried over from the CVCC engine which gained HONDA american acceptance in the major car market. The CVCC idea worked so well even the big 3 asked if they could have access to the technology. In today's market the SI may not mean as much with so many Injected "Sports" cars running around, but it was a designation that Honda began and still carries over today. Kinda like how american car manufacturers still use SS on less than supersport models...

Si has been around since at least the 84-87 gen prelude. I used to have an 87, but it was only the S with that bitch of an air intake mounted between the firewall and the back of the motor. talk about suckin a big one when it's time to change the filter.
