Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has information, or has done a Civic non-vtec (DX,CX) head swap, to a Vtec head from an EX. What do I need? Head, ECU, wiring? Is it worth doing... How much power will I gain?... And eventually I might want to add a Turbo...will it be okay, considering I'm still using the CX block?... Thanks for the help.

You will spend more money on the head swap then the entire CX engine will ever be worth. Its not worth your time, effort, or money to waste on this conversion. Go out and get a D16Z6 for dirt cheap and do the swap. Its not going to cost you much more then putting a Vtec head on the CX block, and will be a LOT more reliable and also make more power.

 

I just got a 99 civic EX head, intake manifold, injectors fuel rail, vtec solinod, & ECU with only 21k on it for $125.00. I thought it was an awsome deal, so I purchased it. Can anyone help me with specifics on doing this swap. I have a 99 CX, now have all the parts listed above from a 99 EX. Any instructions would be great... Thanks for the help. ...oh ya, what kind of head gasket should I get.

 

I have a 94 cx in which I swapped a d16z6, and I am still somewhat dissapointed, so you will have to condider your car will still be slow as it was orig. This is due to the cx tranny has such tall gears. You will be happy with new found single-cam vtec power, it just takes forever to get there. You got a good deal on your parts. You'll need to wire up two vtec wires directly to your ecu. I only know obd0, and obd1, so your on your own. I also changed my one wire o2 sensor to 4 wires. That was tough. I needed the distributor from the z6 because cx is smaller. I plan on running a greddy kit so i will stay with my cx tranny because it will be faster.
