Default bearings

I bought a block from an HT member not too long ago and he threw in some misc parts he had laying around that he had for the block also. In a box there were some bearings so i was pretty excited however the brand turned me off (as i havn't heard of them) - TopLine.

He told me that they were a pretty big domestic brand that had some import production parts. he also assured me he used these bearings on plenty of domestics he's built and they came out with no failure.

Maybe im just a noob but have you guys heard of topline? would you trust their bearings within your motor? http://www.protopline.com

how many miles have you put on your car since the rebuild and what is your driving pattern like? just easy driving or do you mash it or what?

btw nice dyno but that a/f looks nasty for a n/a motor... get that sucker at 14.0 - 14.7 across, isn't that what n/a motors should be at? im use to 12.3:1 - very strong sohc

So far it's about 200. On the first start up, I let it idle for about 20 mins, checked for anything fucked, then changed it's oil (was clean as hell). After that I drove it like a bat out of hell for a couple days, now just normally (half cruising and half bat out of hell ) But yea, I mash the **** out of it. As for the dyno, it was untuned, even though I had a cam gear and fpr...I didn't feel like paying more money , although I do wonder how much I would of made tuned. It was cheap so I couldn't pass it up...soon I'll be back to the good ol 12's for the a/f

But yea, I mainly bought this whole rebuild kit b/c it was cheap, and it was my first honda rebuild. So if I fucked anything up, oh well, at least it wasn't expensive ****. But so far I'm impressed. For my next build (w/ forged internals) I'm thinking of going w/ some acl bearings and oem gaskets......but I'm not sure, this company may have another buyer again

Decipher the codes on the block and crank then order OEM bearings. you are taking a chance using aftermarket bearings.

They are King Bearings repackaged by Topline. If you look at the back of them you can see the King logo.

Are king bearings a well known company for bearings?

King bearings are very well known and high quality. These bearings have to meet or exceed factory oem standards. I have never seen a King or any other aftermarket bearing fail due to quality. The most important thing is that you run proper clearance within factory specs.

everyone always says USE FACTORY HONDA ONLY....factory honda bearings do work excellent and i've never had a problem. but i've started to use ACL bearings in a few motors and they've held up great, and these are motors that see 8500+ rpm daily.

If proper clearances are used and the engine is well maintained you shouldn't have to worry about bearing related problems.

You cant install them to spec... Theres nothing you can do if they dont fall into spec after checked., short of replacing with the proper bearing. Some people may try to shave or alter the bearings, if this is the case then I would take my motor elsewhere.

Ive used ACL, oem, even clevite. Never had any problems with any of them.....except in mine where I took my LS rods to motorcycle like redlines
