MSD Help!!!
MSD Installation 6 series or SCI systems and stock coil.
If your using your stock coil the set-up is thin red wire coming from
the MSD connects to the black/yellow wire coming from the Ignition
Control Module. This is the only connection that you actually splice into, do not
disconnect the wire from the Ignition Control Module. But do
disconnect this black/yellow wire from the coil. You can make this
connection out side the distributor if you know which wire to connect
into. (Hint, the thin red wire coming from the MSD connects to the
black/yellow wire, which originally comes from the ignition switch. IF
you have a Helms manual see the Ignition System circuit diagram.)All
other wires are disconnected from their original connections and
butted to their new connections. The thin white wire coming from the
MSD connects to the white/blue wire coming from the Ignition Control
Module in the distributor. And the thin black wire coming from the
MSD connects to the coil - neg side and the thin orange wire coming
from the MSD connects to the coil + pos side in the distributor. The
coil may be marked. Connect the thick red from the MSD to the battery
and black wires from the MSD to a good ground and that should do it.
This again is for 6 series or SCI systems and external coil.
OK, first locate the stock coil in the distributor (should have a
blk/yel wire (+) and a blue wire (- trigger.) Disconnect both wires
from the stock coil completely. Connect the blk/yel wire to the thin
red wire on the MSD. Hook the blue wire to the thin white wire from
the MSD. Then, connect the orange wire from the MSD to the + terminal
on the MSD coil and hook up the thin black wire from the MSD to the -
terminal on the coil. Connect the thick red from the MSD to the
battery and black wires from the MSD to a good ground and that should
do it.
I mounted mine under the passenger seat and I am using the stock
coil. Soldier all your connections and use shrink-wrap to insulate and
protect your connections. I made the connections in such a way that
should the MSD ignition system fail, I just have to connect one
connector together and the system is back to working stock. I have
some pictures and if you need more help let me know.
