new wheel bearing bad after 170 miles?!
SO I'm installing my new clutch and flywheel a few weeks ago. I notice while I have the car jacked up that the left side Iwheel bearing was wobbleing a little, so I took off both of the steering knuckles and had brand new OEM wheelbearings pressed into both sides by a very repuitable shop in my area. However in the process of removing the axles, the left one was destroyed and replaced, and the right axle was damaged on the end where I ended up hitting it a few times with a huge hammer to get the axle out. I used a small grinder and a threadfile to fix the axle, got my new clutch in and reinstalled everything. Both wheels are wobble free at this point.
A week and 170 mellow, miles later I jacked the car back up to just sorta check the install, and now the right side is wobbleing pretty bad..
So I'm guessing either:
1:I got a defective wheelbearing
2:The shop somehow damaged the wheelbearing or the hub installing it..
3:My dicked up repair on the axle caused it to be unbalanced enough to place the bearing under a lot of strain, causeing it to fail prematurely?
I already have a new wheel bearing, but before I rip my car back apart to install it, I would like some insight as to why it might have failed, and how I can prevent it from happening again...

Your story is similar to what happened to my old Mazda. It turned out that the trailing arm was bent causing the bearing to wear prematurely (It took 2 sets of new bearing for me to find out). A 4 wheel alightment will conform that this is the problem because you can't do a 4 wheel alignment with an "out of place" suspension.
