anybody run without their eacv?

i swear, my car runs better with it disconnected. throttle response is better, idle is more stable... etc. the only downside is that i have to manually rev it when its cold to warm it up... so i wired in a switch and can turn it on only for warming it up. anybody do anything like this? any possible downsides in doing this?
uh yeah it throws a check engine light, and makes the computer run really rich. so downside very poor gas milage and u will need spark plug pretty often. Thats why ur car "feels" better.. if u don't care then more power to ya, personaly i think its pretty dumb

i've been running with it unplugged and i haven't noticed my gas mileage go down at all... i still get around 32+ mpg on the freeway with my zc with an si 5speed and jun flywheel.

yeah thats true, but then i wouldn't have the fast idle on startup... any other thoughts on this? thanks for the replies so far.

What you're looking for is a switch to disconnect it, but the computer can tell when it's not functioning and throws that CEL. If you managed to wire in some sort of a bypass circuit with a total resistance roughly the same as the IACV resistance (measure it with a multimeter) then you could probably get around it, but again, that's something you'd have to flip when the car warmed up. Or you could somehow trigger that by using a temp-dependent switch operated on output from a water temp gauge with an output trigger.

ok, i think my question is more about what happens when the cel comes on. does the ecu go into some kind of base fuel map? if so, is there any harm in just running it that way? sorry if these are stupid questions but i don't know much about electronic fuel injection.

I have no idea, sorry! If you've got an air/fuel meter like an Autometer fancy flashing light display you can use that to see if the ECU is going into closed-loop mode or staying in open-loop. But unless someone knows for sure, I can't say!
I've tried to drive with an IACV code before (IACV died at autocross) and the car shudders + really isn't happy during driving (JDM PR3 ECU). Kinda strange that yours drives better.
