OT: 97 GS-T oil in charge pipe? help
tia
my buddy just picked up a stock dsm and when i was installing his bov and intake i noticed a small amount of oil in the upper charge pipe near the bov. is this normal for the stock t25 turbo seals or are they worn out? any ideas would help.

small amounts of oil are normal, in fact the stock intercooler is known for filling partially up with engine oil over a long time. the "seals" never really seal 100% anyway, so a small amount of leakage is normal..
just make sure it's not blowing the dipstick out of the tube... and if it is replace the seal.
check it. http://www.vfaq.com --should help you out a bit.

thanks ron, btw, its a small amount of oil. when i run my finger on the bottom of the charge pipe i pickup oil, its not like the chargepipe is submerged in oil.... is there anyway to tell forsure it the seals themselves are ok?

Guys, the PCV for DSMs is routed to the intake pipe right after the MAS. Thus, that oil goes everywhere - just like it does in Hondas - unless it's blocked off. If you take off the intake pipe/accordian you'll find quite a bit of the exact same stuff in there - before the turbo. You can block off that hose on the intake's side, then buy a breather filter for the valve cover, or be ghetto and run that hose down by the charcoal canister where it's out of the way... You can bet that the intercooler's just swimming in all that crud. What I've always done is disconnect the intercooler, plug one end with several plastic baggies and a couple of zip ties, empty a half of a can of engine degreaser in there, plug the other end the same way, shake it around for a while, and pour it out into a bucket. Then, spray a bunch of brake cleaner in there in the same way. The stuff that comes out looks absolutely disgusting.
If you want to be really thorough you can do the same thing to the intercooler piping, and just replace the damned accordian. It's all completely normal, but it greatly hinders the intercooler's efficiency.

thanks alex, what kind of line are you using to take the crankcase vent to the downpipe? seems like a good idea, but the standard plastic line would melt if you even thought about connecting it to the dp...
btw, what diameter are the stock eclipse downpipes?
