Default burned a quart of oil in less than 12 hours...

Well, I went out to the local track for a high performance car control clinic. I did about 30-40 laps @ 1 - 1.5 miles per lap and was redlining 2nd and 3rd for most of the track. During this time, I burned about a quart and a half of oil. Everytime I was at WOT, there was blue smoke coming out of my exhaust.

In town, I have 2 or 3 trips to redline in 1st-3rd gear (mergin onto freeway) and about 5 into vtec land per day. With this practice, I burn a quart of oil in 1-2k miles. When I don't need an adrenaline high, or don't want to hear my vtec pop, I burn hardly any oil at all, half quart to a quart every 3k miles.

I don't drip oil, but I smoke a lot ONLY when I get on it. What could be wrong? Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. Oh, btw, I'll be doing a compression test just as soon as I find my tester Thanks

edit: mods are a cat-back exhaust and DIY CAI.

You might want to do some maintaince and replace some general seals. LIke the cam seal/cap. Etc.

Maybe when you were racing, the oil slushed around. Weld some baffles into the oil pan to prevent this.

What are some good cam seals and caps to get? I've seen some aftermarket stuff, but are they as good as OEM?

What are baffles and how would they help me? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm a newbie when it comes to fixing stuff like this

Golden Eagle and STR make excellent cam seals. They are like 12 bux or so.

As far as adding baffles. They should be perpendicular to the right/left motion of the car. They should be "walls" on either side of "hole" where the pick up sits.

The purpose is to direct the oil into the pickup hole as the car shifts form left to right

Damn, that's a lot of oil burned. Well, since you're local if you can't find a tester you can use mine. Just PM me.

But for burning THAT much oil, check for:

Extreme tapping sounds in the engine (those are your valve seals)
PCV clicking, if not than replace it.
Cam seals are cheap, just goto Montano Acura and pick some up.
Considering how hot it is here you will probably want to run higher viscosity oil like 10W-30. Maybe a viscosity additive.

compression test definatly cause the blue smoke is more then likly caused by worn rings on your pistons

my experience with honda cam seals hasnt been that great. i would reccomend some of the aftermarket cam seals, they may be a little bit more but give a great seal.

You said you don't drop oil so its not your cam seals. Its either gotta be your valve guide seals or your rings. How many miles are on your motor? GSR?

it's a 95 gsr with 107k miles. Just for the record, it's been paired up to a 97 gsr tranny. I don't know why, it was like that when I bought the car, but I didn't bother to check, much less ask why.

Not that abnormal for track use. Both my tegs do the same thing (not quite as much, but they consume significant oil, only at the track). Just keep an eye on your level and add oil as needed, and you'll be fine.

also check the seal that is between the block and crank case breather box, if you get your car on a lift, then you can look under your car below the box and see if there is oil residue there.

you might also see some grime and whatnot still there.
