I saw a hatch today that i want to buy, its a 1992 Si. The block says D16Z6 but the valvecover does not say Vtec, did some come like this? It also says Honda of canada on a sticker on the radiator suport, it was bought in Fl so wtf? The guy is asking 2.5K and it has 110K miles, is it a good buy? He also has a lot of misc parts like oil filters, dist cap and rotor, timing belts and alot of other crap still new from the honda dealership.

Is it a SOHC Vtec engine or did the canadian D16Z6 come without VTEC?

 

Yes that engine has vtec i had the same question when i bought my del sol
don't know about it being from canada wouldn't worry about it i probably had some part made or assembled in canada

 

is there a way to wire up a led somewhere to know if vtec is engaging and at what rpm cause i didnt feel it when i tested it

 

They didn't have VTEC on the valve covers until 94-95 I think.

 

If the block says it and the motor is a motor with Vtec it should have it. He might've switched it to keep it from theft

 

I think all 92 hatches sold in the US were made in canada but i'm not sure. A d16z6 block wouldn't run with a non vtec head, so i'm 99% sure everything is ok.

 

if it has a factory sunroof, it's a damn si...that's a damn good price now get it before someone else does

not sure if you know this, but you're not gonna feel much vtec with a d series.

and some older d16s didnt have the vtec on the valve cover.

 

its harder to feel vtec engagement on a sohc than a dohc, but that sounds like a good deal. pick up the hatch
